Four Kingston athletes were in action, at the second Northern Athletics indoor open meeting, which took place at the English Institute of Sports stadium, in Sheffield, on Saturday the 1st of December.

Under20 athlete Adam Coles, joined the clubs junior training group, back in 2011. He has made massive strides since then. He is a 5 time’s County hurdles champion, winning his first title in 2013 in the 75 metre hurdles. He took the hurdles gold for four consecutive years, winning the 80 metre hurdles in 2015, the 100 metres in 2016 and 2017, that year also saw him running, in the 100 hurdles final, at the English schools championships, at the Alexander stadium in Birmingham. He secured his 5th County gold medal at this May’s meeting in the 110 metre hurdles. His 2018 campaign, started at this January’s Northern indoor championships, where won bronze medals, in the 60 metre hurdles and the long jump. Junes’s Northern track & field championships, at Sport City in Manchester, saw him take the gold medal in the 110 metre hurdles. For good measure, he was also the bronze medallist, in the long jump. His proudest moment came this July, when he made his international debut, in the 110 hurdles at the Home Countries International meeting in Swansea.

At this indoor meeting Adam was in competition, in the 60 metres sprints and the 60 metres hurdles. He was drawn in race 4 of the 60 metre sprints, with the  opposition provided by under 17’s, under 20’s, under 23’s and senior runners. He took a 7th place finish in the race, running a new PB of 7.50 sec, an improvement of 4 hundredths. He took 2nd place in the 60 metre hurdles, running another new PB of 8.60sec, an improvement of 0.16 sec.

Under 17 sprinter, Brody Hinson, made his Kingston debut in September of 2015. On his County championship debut, in May 2016, he did the sprint double, taking the gold medals in both the 100 and 200 metre finals. He won his first County vest in Nuneaton, at the Northern Athletics inter counties meeting, where he was the winner of both the 100 and 200 metres sprints. February of 2017 brought his major championship debut, at the Northern indoor championships, where he was the silver medallist in the 200 metre sprints. He successfully defended both his 100 and 200 metre titles, at the 2017 County championships. He was selected to represent the County team, at the 2017 English schools championships. There were 800 under 15 sprinters competing in the UK that year, and Brody raced into the top 10 UK rankings, just before the English schools event. He blasted through the heats and semi’s of the 200 metres, to take his place in the starting line up, in the 200 metres final at the Alexander stadium. He ran magnificently in the final, crossing the finish line in 5th place. He returned home to Costello, the number 5 ranked 200 metres runner in the UK. At this Januarys, Northern indoor championships, he ran a season’s best time in the 60 metres heats and qualified for the final. However he was unable to run in the 60 metre final, having suffered a broken toe, which also caused him to withdraw, from the 200 metres sprints competition. 2018 has been a very frustrating year for Brody, who has missed all of the major championship meetings, due to a number of injuries. He has been working hard with his coach, and over the last few weeks, he has been looking much more like his real self.

This meeting was Brody’s first competition for 3 months. He was in action in race 6 of the 60 metre sprints, where his opposition came from a mixture, of under17’s, under 20’s and under 23’s. He was the winner of the race, running a new PB of 7.44 sec, an improvement of 0.13 of a second.

Under20 heptathlete Venus Morgan, is a former gymnast, who joined Kingston’s junior training group in 2011. She made her club debut at that year’s spring open meeting, at the Costello stadium. The following month saw her County championship debut, where she ran in the finals of the 80 metre and 150 metre sprints, taking the bronze medal in the 80 metres. 2013 saw her make her combined events debut, in Jarrow, at the North East pentathlon championships. The following year she took 4th place at the Yorkshire combined events championships in Cleckheaton. In 2015 she took 2nd place, at the North East schools combined events in Doncaster and 9th place at the English schools combined events, in Bedford. Between 2015 and 2018 she competed at a further 12 combined events championships. Venus has amassed a total of 22 individual County championship medals, Fourteen of which were gold, 4 of them silver and 4 bronze.

At this Northern indoor meeting, Venus was in competition in the 60 metre sprints, and the 60 metre hurdles races. She was drawn in race 11 of the 60 metre sprint series, the age categories of her opponents, were under 17’s, under 20’s and senior athletes. She ran her season’s best time of 8.31 sec, taking 8th place in the race. In the 60 metre hurdles race, she was competing against other under 20’s, under 23’s and senior athletes. She took a 5th place finish, running a time of 9.32 sec.

Hurdler and sprinter, Jack Singleton, made his Kingston debut at the 2016 Spring open meeting. He was the 75 metre hurdles, silver medallist and the 100 metres bronze medallist, at the 2016 County championships. He debuted with the junior team and also won his first County vest, at that years inter County meeting, in Nuneaton. 2017 saw him competing with the junior team in their league campaign, as well as running in the Humber track league. His 2018 campaign began with his debut appearance, in January, at the Northern indoor championships. He was a finalist in the 60 metre hurdles, taking a 6th place finish. He also ran in the heat’s of the 60 metre and 200 metre sprints. At May’s County championships, he was the gold medallist in the 80 metre hurdles, he also took the silver medal in the 100 metre final. August saw him make his debut appearance, at the Northern track & field championships in Liverpool. He ran in the 80 metre hurdles final, where he took an 8th place finish, and also ran in the heat’s of the 100 and 200 metre sprints.

At this Northern indoor meeting Jack was drawn to run in race 12 of the 60 metre sprint series. This was his first appearance as an under 17 athlete, having just moved up from the under 15’s. His opposition came from athletes, in the under 17’s, under 20’s and senior age categories. He took 4th place in the race, running a new PB of 8.10 sec, an improvement of 0.27 sec.
