The second competition of the 2018/2019, South Yorkshire indoor open series was staged at the English Institute of sports stadium, in Sheffield, on Sunday the 2nd of December. This year marks the 11th anniversary of the events existence. It is a competition for boys and girls in the under 11, under 13 and under 15 age categories. There are a total of four fixtures in the series, all of which will be staged at the excellent facilities, which the E.I.S stadium offers. All competitors are allowed to compete in three events of their choice, at each meeting. Awards will be based upon performances and points in the first three fixtures, with awards being presented at the 4th fixture.

There is huge demand every year, for places at the South Yorkshire series, and this year Kingston’s Gabriel Li La-Vigars secured one of the last few remaining places. He is in his debut season with the club, and has made good progress throughout 2018. At the opening match of the series, on the 7th of October, he had competed in the 60 metre sprints, long jump and shot putt. 

In this second match of the series, Gabriels nominated events were the 600 metres race, and the high jump. This was the first time he had run in a 600 metres race, he covered the race in a time of 2:03.13 sec, crossing the finishing line in 6th place and established a PB for the 600 metres. In the high jump competition, he went clear at his PB height of 1.35 metres, to finish in =6th place.

The third match of the South Yorkshire Series, will take place at the English Institute of Sports stadium, on Sunday the 20th of January 2019.
