Quibell Park Scunthorpe – Saturday 5th January
The 2019 County cross country Championships, took place on Saturday the 5th of January, at Quibell Park in Scunthorpe. A total of 244 athletes were in competition at the event. Races were contested across all age categories, both male and female, from under 11’s all the way through to Masters athletes. 22 of Kingston upon Hull AC’s athletes were in action at the Championship meeting.
The Performance details of all the Kingston athletes are as follows
Under 13 Girls
2.7 Kilometre Race
Emma Hoggard had made her County championship debut, at the 2017 event, where she had taken a 5th place finish. At this competition she was a 4th place finisher, covering the 2.7 kilometres course in a time of 11:37 sec. Lydia Greenwood, who was making her county championship debut appearance, ran the course in a time of 12:06 sec, to take 8th place in the race. The girls were running in a field of 25 athletes.
Under 15 Girls
4.5 Kilometre Race
Four Kingston athletes were in action in the under 15 girls race. Georgina North made her County championship bow in the race, where she took a 4th place finish, running the course in a time of 20:46 sec. Training partner Aimee Campbell, who was also running, in her first County championships, was the 5th place finisher, covering the course in a time of 21:02 sec. 6th place went to Ella Shaw-Hall. Running in her second County event, she took a 6th place finish and navigated the course in a time of 21:46 sec. Amy Rothery, who was also running in her second County event, took 11th place, running the course in a time of 24:59 sec.
Under 15 Boys
5 Kilometre Race
The Kingston representatives in the under 15 boys 5 kilometres race, were training partners Thomas Smales, Adam Fox and Oliver Adnitt. The 2018 silver medallist Thomas Smales, was the first of the trio to cross the finish line, running the course in a time of 19:16 sec, to win his second consecutive silver medal. Adam Fox was the 6th place finisher, running the course in a time of 20:48 sec. Oliver Adnitt finished in 7th place, crossing the finish line in a time of 21.26 sec.
Under 17 Women
5 Kilometre Race
Jodie Martin was the silver medallist at both the 2016 and the 2017 championships. At the 2018 event, she won the gold medal. She had an excellent 2018 track & field season, the highlights being, winning the 800 metres bronze medal at the Northern championships, plus competing in the 800 metres final at the English Schools championships. At this meeting she was in action in the under 17 women’s 5 kilometre race, where she was the gold medallist, running the course in a time of 21:22 sec. Megan Hatfield, was making her County championship debut in this race, where she covered the course in a time of 21:34 sec to win the silver medal.
Under 20 Men
8 Kilometre Race
Alex Wilson has been a Kingston athlete since 2015. His main focus has been on road runs and park runs. He made his County championship debut at this event, where he ran in the 8 kilometre, under 20 men’s race. He covered the course, in a time of 31:20 sec, which saw him win the gold medal.
Senior Women
10 Kilometre Race
Hayley Watson and Kim Escreet, made their County championship debut appearances at this event. Both athletes have done the bulk of their running, both on the road and at Park runs. Hayley Watson covered the 10 kilometre course, in a time of 62:08 sec, to finish in 27th position. Kim Escreet finished in 32nd place, running the course in 75:04 sec.
Senior Men
10 Kilometre Race
The winner of the senior men’s 10 kilometre race, was former Kingston Athlete Shaun Smith who is studying, at St Marys University, in Hampshire. This victory saw him take his third County title. He covered the course, in a time of 36:36 sec. Seven Kingston athletes were also in action in the race. The 2015 champion Gregan Clarkson, took 8th place in the race, running a time of 39:20 sec. The 2017 bronze medallist Tom Whitley, took 15th place, covering the course in 40:35 sec. Five of the clubs road runners were also in action in the race, all of them making their County championship debuts. Lee Craven took 48th place, running the course in 46:17 sec. Next one home was Stephen Hunt in 61st, navigating the course in a time of 50:59 sec. Andy Steel’s run of 54:19 sec, gave him 70th place, whilst David Rivers came home in 73rd, with his run of 56:53 sec. Mike Watson finished in 79th, running a time of 59:31 sec.
