‘Sport City’ Manchester – Sunday 6th January 2019
On Sunday the 6th of January, seven Kingston upon Hull AC athletes, travelled to the Sport City stadium, in Manchester. To compete, at the Sale Harriers indoor open meeting.
Details of their performance’s are as follows.
Under 17’s
Alanah Thoresby competed in three events, high jump, long jump and the 60 metre sprints. She was the high jump silver medallist, at last year’s North Yorkshire County track & field championships. She also competed in the high jump final at the English Schools Championships. At this meeting she jumped a season’s best height of 1.55 metres in the high jump,for an 11th place finish. In the long jump, she took 7th place with a season’s best jump of 4.50 metres. She was drawn to run in race 20 of the 60 metre series, where she took 3rd place, running her personal best time of 8.53 sec.
Ellie Townsend is the reigning County high jump champion, taking the gold at last May’s championship meeting. She was also a high jump finalist, at last Augusts Northern championship’s in Liverpool. Her chosen events at Sport City were the 60 metre sprints and the long jump. She was drawn to run in race 21 of the 60 metres, where she took 4th place in the race, running a new PB of 8.72 sec, an improvement of 0.13 sec. The long jump saw her put in a season’s best effort of 4.34 metres, to take 11th place.
Emily Dye was a finalist in the 100 metres and long jump, at last year’s County championships. She also competed in the English Schools Cup final, in the same events. Emily also competed for the senior team, in the North of England track & field league, where she put in some outstanding performances. Her chosen events at this meeting were the 60 metre sprints and the long jump. She was drawn in race 21 of the 60 metre series, where she took 2nd place, running a new PB of 8.60 sec, an improvement of 0.17 sec. The long jump saw her take a 4th place finish, jumping a season’s best distance of 4.58 metres.
Under 20’s
2018 was another exceptional year for heptathlete Venus Morgan. She took 4th place at the English schools combined events championships, as well as securing a 5th place finish, at the English national combined events. She also finished 2nd at the North Eastern schools combined events. She was in action in two events at this meeting, the 60 metre sprints and the 60 metre hurdles. Drawn in race 13 of the 60 metre sprints, she took 3rd place, running her season’s best time of 8.15 sec. She was the winner of the 60 metre hurdles race, running another season’s best time of 9.27 sec.
Seniors
Under 23 athlete and former Northern 60 metres champion Joe Cooper, is the reigning County 100 and 200 metres champion, doing the sprint double at last May’s County championships. He has been an outstanding member of the senior team, for several years now. He was in action in the 60 metres sprints at Sport City, where he was drawn to run in the 4th race of the series. He ran his season’ best time of 7.33 sec, to take a 3rd place finish in the race.
2019 has seen Chloe Constable make the move up from the under 20’s, to the under 23’s. She was the 100 metres silver medallist at last Mays County championship event. At this meeting she was in competition in the 60 metres sprint series, where she was drawn to run in the 11th race. Chloe was a 6th place finisher in the race, running a new PB of 8.40 sec, an improvement of one hundredth of a second.
Decathlete Simon Downs was in action in three sprint races. His first race was in round one of the 60 metres series, where he was drawn in race 11. This was his first run over the 60 metre distance. He took a 4th place finish and established a PB of 7.99 sec. His next challenge was in round 2 of the 60 metres, where he went in race 6. He took 2nd place in the race, running a time of 8.02 sec. Race 19 of the 200 metre sprints, was his next objective. He was the winner of the race, running a new PB of 25.83 sec, an improvement of 0.67 sec.
