British Milers Club Grand Prix

Sport City, Manchester 25th May 2019

Jodie Martin, Kingston’s top ranked female 800m runner, made the trip across the Pennines where she was the area’s only representative at the British Miler’s Club Grand Prix meeting at Manchester’s Sports City stadium. Cold drizzly weather greeted top class fields in events ranging from 800m to 5,000m with athletes travelling from all corners of the British Isles and abroad. Having clocked a personal best of 2:13.15 at her previous BMC race Jodie was hoping to improve on this but despite a strong first 500m she last ground in the later stages of the race and was disappointed with her time of 2:16.51 sec, bringing her 8th place. She did however get the opportunity to meet one of her favourite athletes, former European champion Lynsey Sharp who was the winner of the A race, using this as preparation for forthcoming Diamond League events and her quest to make the British team for the World Championships in Doha later in the season.
