Northern Track & Field Championships
Under 13/15 &17’s
Wavertree Stadium, Liverpool – 17th/18th August
2019, has been another successful year, for Holly Adams. The throws specialist began her campaign, at this January’s Northern Indoor Championships, in Sheffield. Where, she was the silver medallist, in the shot putt. At Mays County Championships, she took both shot and discus gold medals. July took her to Chelmsford, for the English Schools Cup Final, which secured another silver medal, in the shot. Six days later, she was at Birmingham, for the English Schools, track & field Championships. This was her first season, at her new age category of under17, where she was competing, against athletes, a year older than herself. She put in a mighty performance, to take a 4th place finish. At the Northern championships, she took gold medals, in both the shot, and discus competitions, throwing a new PB of 13.40 metres, in the shot, 33 cm beyond her old best. The discus saw her secure the gold medal, with her throw of 35.53 metres.
Throws specialist Antony Mould, won his 2nd hammer gold medal, at this May’s County Championships, his previous victory, came at the 2017 event. He also won the bronze medal, in the discus event. He was selected to represent the County team, at the 2019 English schools championships, where he competed in the hammer final, taking 11th place, with his throw of 44.71 metres. The Northern championships, saw him competing, in the hammer and discus. He was the silver medallist, in the under 17 hammer, throwing a new PB of 50.43 metres, 38cm beyond his old mark. He took a 6th place finish, in the discus, with a throw of 33.87 metres.
Under 15 athlete, Elsa Thompson, made her club debut, at the Kingston open meeting, in September of 2018. She worked hard, with her coach, throughout the winter, and spring. She hit the ground running in April, making her debut, for the Kingston junior team in the UK Youth Development league. May saw her do the sprint double, at the County Championships, and she repeated the feat, at the County Schools Championships, in June. She was selected for the County team, for the English Schools Championships, where she ran in the heats of the 200 metres. The Northern championships, saw her in action in the 300 metres sprints, where she ran in the first of the days heats, taking 2nd place in the race, qualifying for the final, running a time of 43.12 sec. The 300 metres final, saw her take 4th place in the race, where she ran a new PB of 41.66 sec, one hundredth of a second, off her old mark.
Jodie Martin restarted her season after an extended holiday break by competing in the under 17 800m. She cruised through her heat, crossing the line in first place in 2:19.09 sec and followed this up by narrowly missing a medal finishing 4th in the final, a slow, tactical battle surprisingly won by Leeds City’s Zoe Hunter who produced the run of her life to beat several more fancied athletes.
Amelia Proctor had a busy weekend but was delighted to reach her first Northern Championship final when placing 8th in the under 17 300m in 44.00 sec after coming through her earlier heat in 44.20 sec. The following day she took on the 200m where she was 5th in 28.92 sec, unsurprisingly well outside her best time, when a headwind of 6.9 metres per second showed on the scoreboard!
Eve Anderson made her debut at this level of competition and achieved her aim of making the final of a very high quality under 17 triple jump event containing no less than 4 English Schools finalists. Eve’s best jump of 9.97m brought her 9th place.
Daisy Logan clocked 13.08 sec in her heat of the under 17 100m, missing qualification for the semi-finals by just one place and 0.07 sec in another extremely loaded event with the gold medal eventually going to English Schools champion Joy Eze (Gateshead Harriers)
The County, under 15 hammer champion, Gabriel Li La-Vigars, made his Northern track & field debut, at this championship meeting, where he was in competition, in the hammer, discus and javelin finals. He took 5th place in the hammer final, with his throw of 31.46 metres, the discus event, saw him take an 11th place finish, with a throw of 21.31 metres. In the javelin final, he took 5th place, with his throw of 34.84 metres.
County discus and javelin champion, Alex Chivers, made his Northern track & field bow, competing in the under 15, shot, javelin, and discus finals. The javelin event, saw him launch a new PB of 37.38 metres, 3.06 metres beyond his old mark, taking 4th place in the final. The shot saw him, take 8th place, throwing a new PB of 10.58 metres, 18cm beyond his old best. His throw of 28.27 metres, in the discus, saw him take, a 7th place finish.
Lydia Moore, made her Northern track & field debut, competing in the under 15 shot, javelin and discus events. She took 7th place in the shot, throwing a new PB of 8.54 metres, 33cm beyond her old mark. The discus saw her, take another 7th place, throwing a new PB of 22.92 metres, 1.37 metres beyond her old best. The javelin is her newest event, she took 16th place, in the final, with her throw of 16.81 metres.
Northern debutant, Izzy Watts, was in action in the under 15 hammer, shot and javelin finals. The hammer saw her take 9th place, throwing a new PB of 28.00 metres, 2.75 metres beyond her old mark. She took a 10th place finish, in the shot, with a throw of 7.90 metres, whilst in the javelin, her throw of 21.37 metres, gave her a 14th place finish.
Beth Moodie, also made her championship debut, competing in the under 15 high jump, and triple jump events. The high jump, saw her take 15th place in the final, going clear at a new PB height of 1.30 metres, 2cm beyond her old best. In the triple jump, she took 6th place, and established a PB of 8.55 metres. The javelin event, saw her take 5th place, with her jump of 28.73 metres.
Under 13 debutant, Emily Marshall, competed out of her age category, in the under 15’s high jump. She took 12th place in the competition, going clear, at a height of 1.35 metres.
Another debutant, Freya Vidal, ran in the heats, of the under 13, 100 and 200 metres sprints. She was drawn in heat 2, of the 100 metres, where she took 3rd place, running a time of 14.61 sec. She went in heat 2 of the 200 metres, taking a 4th place finish, running a time of 31.21 sec.
The under 17 women’s hammer final, saw the County hammer champion, Eden Lockett, make her debut appearance, at the Northern track & field Championships. In a close and competitive final, she took a creditable 4th place finish, with her throw of 42.53 metres.
Middle distance runner, Thomas Smales, made his Northern track & field debut, at this meeting.He was in competition, in the under 17 men’s,1500 metres final, where he took a 10th place finish, running the metric mile, in a time of 4:21.68 sec.
