Yorkshire Open – Combined Events Meeting

Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th August 2019
The weekend of the 24th and 25th of August, took Kingston athlete Oliver Adnitt, over to Cudworth, in South Yorkshire, where he made his debut appearance, in a combined events competition. He took on the challenge, at the Yorkshire Open Combined Events meeting, where he was in action in the under 17 men’s Octathlon, which was staged over eight events, and two days of competition.
Day One – Saturday 24th August
His first discipline, on the Saturday, was the 100 metres hurdles race, where he was running into a head wind of minus 2.1. He coped well with the elements, and was the winner of the race, running a time of 16.42 sec, to establish a PB, and collect 548 points. Next up was the long jump, where he had a 2.1 tail wind. Once again he was victorious, jumping a new PB of 5.33 metres, 9cm beyond his old best, banking another 447 points. The shot putt, was his third event of the day. He threw a new PB of 9.24 metres, 1.25 metres ahead of his old mark, which garnered him another 441 points. The final event of day one was the 400 metres race, one of Oliver’s strong events. He was the winner of the race, running a time of 56.04 sec, which yielded another 558 points. His total points at the end of the first day was 1994, which put him, in first place on the ladder, 148 points ahead, of his nearest challenger.
Day Two – Sunday 25th August
Sunday’s event’s, began with the discus throw, which marked Oliver’s, competitive debut in the discipline. He put in a throw of 20.00 metres, to establish a PB, and collected 272 points, to add to his total. Next on the agenda, was the high jump, another of his stronger disciplines He went clear at a height of 1.66 metres, picking up another 512 points. Javelin was the next discipline on the list, and this was his competitive debut in the event. He threw a distance of 35.29 metres, establishing a PB, as well as banking another 374 competition points. The final event was the 1500 metre’s, where he ran the metric mile in a time of 4:49.19 sec, collecting a further 634 points, to add to his total.
Oliver was the winner of the event, with a total of 3776 points, over the two days of competition. With Cleethorpes’ Nathan Smith, taking 2nd place, with his total of 2687 points.
