 Northern Athletics – Cross Country Relay Championships

Graves Park, Sheffield – Saturday 19th October 2019

The annual, Northern Athletics, Cross Country Relay Championships, were staged at Sheffield’s Graves Park, on Saturday the 19th of October. Over 1200 athlete’s, were in competition at the event. Kingston upon Hull AC, were represented at the event by eight teams. Under 11 girls, under13 boys, two teams of under15 girls, under 17 men, two teams of senior women, and a senior men’s team. Following several days of rain, the course was very muddy.

Performance details of all the Kingston athletes are as follows.

Under 11 Girls 1500 Metres Race

 (3 legs – 93 runners)

 The under 11 girls race went off at 11:45 am, with Megan Wright, taking out the baton, on the opening leg, she covered the course in a time of 6:.03 sec, handing over the baton, in 16th place to, Lucy Hope, who ran the 1500 metres, in a time of 6:18 sec, handing over to Ruby Farr who ran the third and final leg, crossing the finish line, in 13th place, running a time of 6:06 sec. A total team time of 18:27 sec.

Under 13 Boys – 1800 metres Race

(3 legs – 140 runners)

 The under 13 boys race, went off at 12:20 pm. Noah Sibary took out the baton, navigating the course, in a time of 5:51 sec, handing over the baton, to Max Wright, who clocked a time of 6:22 sec, handing over, in 12th place to Alfred Scruton, for the final leg, who brought the team home, in 13th place, running a time of 6:13 sec. A total team time of 18:26 sec.

Under 15 Girls – 2000 Metres Race

(3 legs – 155 Runners)

Kingston put out two teams, of under 15 girls, an ‘A’ team and a ‘B’ team. Georgina North, ran the opening leg, for the ‘A’ team, covering the course, in a time of 9:10 sec, handing over to Jess Waugh for the 2nd leg, with the team in 36th place, she ran the 2000 metres in 9:15 sec, handing the baton, in 34th place, to Amy Rothery, whose run of 10:33 sec, saw the team finish in 37th position, with a combined team time of 28:58 sec.

The Kingston ‘B’ team, saw Emma Hoggard, running the opening leg, she navigated the course, in a time of 9:25 sec, handing over in 43rd, to Aimee Campbell on leg two, who ran the course in 9:45 sec, handing over in 41st place, to Meabh Brannigan, whose run of 8:54 sec, saw her finish individually, in 16th place on the leg, and the team 34th overall, running a combined team time of 26:04 sec.

Under 17 Men – 2300 metres Race

(3 legs – 93 Runners)

The under 17 men’s race, went off at 11:05 am. Harry Hudson, ran the opening leg, covering the 2300 metres, in a time of 7:37 sec, handing over the baton, to Tom Smales for the second leg, with the team, in 15th place. Tom navigated the course, running a time of 7:39 sec, handing over to Adam Fox, for the final leg, where his run of 8:31 sec, pulled back one position, to bring the team home, in 14th place, posting a team time of 23:47 sec.

Senior Women – 2 Miles Race

(3 legs – 144 Runners)

Kingston fielded two teams, in the senior women’s 2 miles race. The Kingston ‘A’ team, saw Claire Smith, taking out the baton, on the first leg, she covered the two miles, in a time of 21:04 sec, handing over in 50th place, to Amanda Barr, who covered the course, in 23:07 sec, handing over in 48th place, to Helen Pickering for the final leg, she covered the last two miles, in a time of 25:03 sec, bringing the team home, in 45th place, with a total team time of 69:14 sec.

The Kingston ‘B’ team, were led off, by Samantha Page, who navigated the course, in a time of 23:33 sec, handing over in 51st place, to Sharon Tummons, for the second leg. Sharon ran the two miles, in 19:49 sec, handing over the baton, in 48th place, to Jess Cappleman, whose run of 14:24 sec, brought the team home, in 43rd place, with a combined team time of 57:46 sec.

Senior Men – 4.2 miles Race

(4 legs – 227 Runners)

The senior men’s 4.2 miles race saw Callum Manley, take the baton out on the first leg. He covered the 4.2 miles, in a time of 14:10 sec, and handed it over in 51st place, to Lee Craven who ran the 2nd leg, navigating the course, in a time of 15:02 sec, maintaining 51st place. The 3rd leg saw the baton, in Steve Hunt’s possession, his run of 14:35 sec, clawed three places back, handing the baton over in 47th place, to David Rivers for the final leg, who ran the course, in a time of 17:07 sec, for a 45th place finish. The combined team time, for the race was 60:54 sec.
