South Yorkshire Indoor Series

The second competition of the 2019/2020, South Yorkshire indoor open series, was staged at the English Institute of sports stadium, in Sheffield, on Sunday the 1st of December. This year marks the 12th anniversary of the events existence. It is a competition for boys and girls in the under 11, under 13 and under 15 age categories. There are a total of four fixtures in the series, all of which will be staged at the excellent facilities, which the E.I.S stadium offers. All competitors are allowed to compete in three events of their choice, at each meeting. Awards will be based, upon performances and points accrued, in all the fixtures, with awards being presented at the 4th and final match.
Sebastian McKenzie, made his second appearance, at this year’s indoor series, having represented Kingston, at the opening event, in November. His chosen events, were the 150 metres sprints, 600 metres race, and the long jump. He was the winner of the 150 metres sprints, running a new PB of 22.39 sec, taking 0.41 sec off his old time. The 600 metres race, saw him take a 5th place finish, posting another new PB, of 2:05.16 sec, chopping 1.09 sec, off his old mark. The long jump competition, saw him take his second victory of the day, with his leap of 3.48 metres.
Ruby Farr, has been training, with Kingston’s junior group, since the summer of 2018. She is learning her trade, in open competitions, organised by the athletic clubs, on both sides of the Humber estuary. This October saw her, competing in her first championship meeting, in Sheffield’s Graves Park, where she ran the 3rd leg, for the Kingston under 11 girls team, at the Northern Counties, cross country relay championships. She made her indoor debut at this South Yorkshire series match, where she chose to compete, in the 150 metres sprints, the long jump competition, and the 600 metres race. She took a 2nd place finish, in the 150 metre sprints, where she ran a new PB of 23.03 sec, clipping 0.14 sec off her old time. Another 2nd place finish, was taken in the long jump event, where she leapt to a new PB of 3.44 metres, 2 centimetres beyond her old mark. In the 600 metres race, she took a 3rd place finish, running a time of 2:08.98 sec.
The third match of the series, will take place on Sunday the 9th of February, and the 4th and final meeting, will be on Sunday the 29th of March. Both matches will be held at the English Institute of Sports Stadium, in Sheffield.
