CONNOR PICKERING – Kingston upon Hull Athletic Club
South Yorkshire Indoor Series – 2013/2014
Connor Pickering is 10 years of age and he competes for Kingston upon Hull Athletic Club, in the Under 11 boys category.
Over the winter period of 2013 and 2014, Connor Competed in the South Yorkshire Athletics Association ‘Indoor Series’. This event is held annually and takes place at the English Institute of Sport indoor stadium in Sheffield.
Athletes competed on four separate days, between October 2013 and March 2014. The disciplines included both track and field events. The athletes competed in three events on each of the four days. Points were awarded in accordance with the times (track events) or distances (field events) which the competitors achieved.
He competed in the following events:-
26th October 2013 Day 1 – Shot Putt – Long Jump – 150m Sprint
30th November 2013 Day 2 – High Jump – 60m Sprint – 600m Race
15th February 2014 Day 3 – Long Jump – 150m Sprint – 600m Race
23rd March 2014 Day 4 – Soft Javelin – 600m Race – 150m Sprint
Connor finished the competition with a total of 301 points and finished in joint 3rd place out of 39 competitors.
He was awarded the Bronze Medal.
Connor competed in this series as an able bodied athlete. This makes his accomplishment even more impressive, because he suffers impaired hearing.
He fits the criteria to compete at the deaf Olympics.
He has also attended three talent induction days for the Paralympics. These were held in Sheffield, Liverpool and also Manchester.
