AAA – ‘Tom Pink Relays’ and Field Events Challenge

L to R  Ellie Townsend – Alanah Thoresby – Faye Oliver – Emily Dye – Gina De Lancey

This event is organised by the Amateur Athletics Association and is funded by means of a generous bequest from the late Alice and Lewis Pink in 2007. They wished to fund children’s activities, in memory of their son who was tragically killed in an accident in the 1970’s.

The event was held at EIS (English Institute of Sport) indoor Stadium in Sheffield, on Saturday 8th of March 2014.

The Competition consists of both track and field events. It is open to girls and boys, who compete for their Athletic Clubs, in a Team Competition. There are two age groupings, Under 11 and Under 13.

In The Tom Pink Relays the competitors attempt to beat the times of some of our great distance runners. The races are called ‘Keeping up with Paula’ ,  ‘Chasing Kelly’ and  ‘Chasing Steve’.

The Field  Events  consist of throwing and jumping and are tailored to the needs of younger athletes.

Teams were entered by Athletic Clubs from Yorkshire, Lancashire, Derbyshire and Cheshire. Cities and towns represented included Kingston upon Hull, Sheffield, Derby, Southport, Chesterfield, Crewe, Halifax and more.

Kingston upon Hull Athletic Club (KUHAC for short) came home with 13 Field Event Medals and 4 Relay Medals.
