England Athletics
Under 15 & Under 17 Championships
Bedford – Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st August 2014
The annual England Athletic Championships were held in Bedford over the last weekend in August. All of the best athletes in the country, in the relevant age groups, were present. Every one of them had been training hard all season to attain the necessary time or distance in order to be able to compete there.
They were all hoping that at the end of the weekend they would be the champion of England in their track or field event.
Seven athletes from Kingston upon Hull Athletic Club made the long journey south hoping to achieve their dreams.
The weather on both days was a mixture of sunshine and showers accompanied by strong gusting winds which made it difficult for all the athletes, both track and field to perform at their peak.
The outstanding achievements by our clubs athletes came from two members of the ‘Hull Hammer Squad’ Olivia Stevenson and Maggie Okul. Both girls have had fantastic seasons. Both of them have won every hammer competition in their respective league matches. They are both champions of Northern England. Ollie at Under 15 and Maggie at both Under 17 and Under 20.
Olivia Stevenson
Ollie competed on the Saturday when she won the silver medal in the Under 15 Girls Hammer throw. She threw a distance of 49.54m.
Maggie Okul
Maggie’s competition was on the Sunday and she won the bronze medal in the Under 17 Women’s Hammer, where she set a new PB of 54.03m.

Sophie contested the Under 17 Women’s shot putt final, where she finished in 10th position with a putt of 10.94m. Sophie is a first year under 17 and she has had a very good season. This competition was a great learning experience for her.
Jonathon Beharrell
Jonny is a very talented middle distance runner and a valuable member of our youth team. He ran in the heats of the Under 17 Men’s 800 metres, where he recorded a time of 1:59.83s.

Luci is a member of our under 17 women’s relay team, who earlier this season, set the record for the fastest time in Britain this year. She ran in the heats of both the 100 and 200 metres, setting times of 13.08s for the 100 and 26.74s for the 200 metres.
