Liverpool Throws and Jumps – Saturday 13th September 2014
The Liverpool Throws and Jumps competitions were initiated in 2004 and are held at the beginning and the end of the outdoor athletic season. They take place at the Wavertree Stadium which is the home of Liverpool Harriers Athletics Club .
The meeting encompasses every field event and leading athletes from all over the north of England and the Midlands gather at Wavertree for the festivities. It is a great social occasion for the athletes renewing old acquaintances and making new ones. Of course once the events get under they go into competition mode…
Maggie Okul and Olivia Stevenson the two leading girl members of the ‘Hull Hammer Squad’ made the journey across the country to compete at the event. Both of them have been magnificent this season in all competitions. Olivia is ranked no. 2 in the UK in the under 15 category, and Maggie is ranked no.5 at under 17.
Olivia Stevenson dominated the under 15 Hammer competition from the first throw to the last and she won the gold medal with a throw measuring 50.78m.
She also competed in the Discus competition where she picked up the silver medal with a throw of 31.53m.
Maggie Okul was involved in a fiercely contested final with some of her old rivals. She took the bronze medal with her best throw on the day being 52.03m.
Both girls thoroughly enjoyed the day and they were happy with their medals and plaques.
