‘Cleethorpes Beach Open’

Sunday 12th October 2014

 

This is an annual event which is organised by Cleethorpes Athletic Club and it is supported by athletes of all ages. This year saw a field of 250 athletes assemble on the seafront to contest the race.

The contestants came not only from both sides of the River Humber. Athletes were drawn from Lincoln, Louth, Gainsborough, Skegness and Leeds. One of the runners came from Stoke on Trent.

The overall winner of the race was Gregan Clarkson of Kingston upon Hull Athletic Club, who completed the course in a time of 28.02s.

Gregan is a two time World Biathle Champion, winning the event in both 2006 and 2008.

He regularly competes at events in the north of England but also travels to many other parts of England and Scotland in search of competition.

He represents his club on the track at Senior League meetings, covering 5000 and 10000 metres and the 3000 metres Steeplechase.

He also works extremely hard behind the scenes at the club.
