Humberside Track League Meeting  No. One

King George V Stadium, Grimsby

On Saturday 25th of April the first of the 2015 Humberside League meetings took place at the King George V stadium in Grimsby. These meetings are mainly frequented by our younger athletes. The Youth Development League competitions begin at the under 13 year’s age group. For our youngest juniors (under 11’s) this is one of the league competitions for them.

All age groups are catered for, up to and including senior athletes. Everyone is welcome to attend the meetings. A healthy number of our junior athletes made their way over the Humber to compete at Grimsby, where a lot of new PB’s and seasons bests were set by our young athletes.

Details of the best performances on the day are as follows:-

Under 11’s

William Fairburn is 9 years old and he joined our junior training group in October of 2014. During the autumn and winter he has missed very few of the popular weekly Saturday ‘Park Runs’ which Hull City Council organise in ‘Peter Pan’ park. He made his track debut in his Kingston vest at Grimsby. William ran in 3 races, the 80 metres where he claimed 3rd place and set a new PB of 13.5s. He was the winner of the 150 metres with another new PB of 28.0s. His final race was in the 600 metres where he got another 3rd place finish and another new PB of 2:08.6s.

Tonisha Pickering has been with us since 2013 and she is an experienced competitor in this league and also in the York summer league. She competed in the 80 metres and 150 metres races, finishing 3rd in the 80 in a season’s best of 14.0s and 2nd in the 150 with a new PB of 27.3.

Alex Chivers took on his first 600 metres race which he completed in 2:28.1s for a 9th place finish.

 Under 13’s

Alanah Thoresby has been at the club since 2013 and is in her 3rd competitive season. You could call her a seasoned campaigner now in the Humberside League. She ran in both the 100 and 200 metres races. Alanah won her 100 in a new personal best time of 15.1s. The 200 saw another PB from her of 31.8s to claim 3rd place in her race.

Ella Draper who is also in her 3rd season of competition and is an accomplished middle distance runner took on the 100 and 200 metres sprints at Grimsby. Ella took 3rd place in her 100 race in a new personal best time of 15.5s and finished in 2nd place in the 200 which also garnered a new PB of 31.4s.

Jodie Martin finished 2nd in her 100 metre race and also set a new PB of 15.1s. She then went on to the 800 metres where she won another 2nd place finish and picked up another new PB of 2:41.5s.

Sophie Reed is in her first season of competition and Saturday saw her taking on the 200 metres and the long jump. She was the winner of her 200 race and she set a new personal best time 31.4s. In the long jump her best effort of the day of 3.37m saw her collect a 6th place finish.

Evie Watson is now into her second season with Kingston and is making steady progress in our junior group. She started 2015 with a 7th place finish in the Humberside Cross Country Championships in Weelsby Woods in Grimsby. On her return to the town last Saturday she once again made her presence felt. She set new PB’s in both the 200 and 800 metres races. She took 2nd place in the 200 in 31.6s and 4th place in the 800 in 2:49.9s. She then went on to the long jump where she claimed another 2nd place with a jump of 3.72m.

Katy McCabe joined our training group in January this year and was making her league debut at this meeting. She will have mixed memories but will never forget her day here. Katy ran in the 1200 metres race where she was accidentally clipped by another athlete which sent her tumbling to the track. She got back to her feet and carried on to win the race. She also ran a new personal best time 4:44.9s. Unfortunately the fall left her with a broken wrist which is now ‘in pot‘. We wish her a speedy recovery.

Ben Copley is a young thrower who is showing some promise. He and his training group have spent the winter with our specialist throws coach Dave Bennett. All the hard work Ben had put in came to fruition at Grimsby. He set three new personal best’s. Ben won the discus competition with a throw of 28.43m.
