Grimsby Open Meeting

Monday 4th May 2015

A good turnout of our athletes travelled over to the King George V Stadium in Grimsby on bank holiday Monday the 4th of May, to take part in the Kit Bell memorial open meeting.

Details of their performances on the day are as follows.

 Under 11’s

Alex Grant and Aimee Zeibecke fought their way through the heats in the 80 metres sprints. In the finals Alex ran a new personal best time of 12.4s to take a 3rd place finish. Aimee who was making her track debut for the club was placed 6th in the girls final and she ran the race in 14.0s.

The long jump competition found Alex Grant and Aimee Zeibecke joined by Frances Farnill, another young lady who was making her debut for the club. Alex produced a second PB of the day with an excellent jump of 3.64m gaining him 2nd place. In the girls competition Frances jumped 2.68m for a 5th place finish and Aimee was in 7th with 2.52m. Frances Farnill also made her track debut in the 600 metres race where she finished 5th in a field of 14 runners with a creditable time of 2:21.7s. All in all it was very good day for Alex and notable debuts for the two girls.

Under 13’s

Ben Stutely is a talented young pole-vaulter and at Grimsby he took part in a men’s open age competition. He pulled out a personal best clearance of 1.90m to take 4th place. Esther Savage was another of our juniors making their club debuts at the meeting. She ran the 800 metres race in 3:02.8s and earned herself a 9th place finish and then took on the shot putt where a throw of 3.82m gained her 11th place, a good start to Esther’s competitive career. Eve Anderson made her second outing for the club. She ran in the final of the 200 metres where she ran 36.1s for 7th place

Holly Adams was appearing in her 5th competition in her Kingston vest. She ran in the 100 metres race’s and recorded a time of 15.4s for 5th place in her heat. In the shot a throw of 5.92m gained her 5th place and a leap of 3.37m in the long jump rounded off her day. Ellie Townsend made her competitive comeback after several months of niggling injuries. She took on the high jump and cleared a height of 1.15m. It is good to her back in action. Her twin sister Jess Townsend contested the shot competition where she threw a distance of 4.68m.

Under 15’s

Jack Perry is a young man who is showing a lot of promise. He took on the 100 metres race and the long jump. Jack was the winner of both the competitions, posting a time of 12.4s in the 100 and jumping 5.02 metres in the long jump. Abbie Haigh took on three events, the 800 metres, high jump and long jump. She took a good 3rd place in the 800 with a run of 2:37.9, 5th in the high jump with a clearance of 1.25m and 7th in the long jump with 3.45m. Natasha Rawling ran a personal best of 14.5s in the heats of the 100 metres but it wasn’t quite enough to get into the final.

Our under 17 and 20 athletes all competed in the senior men’s and women’s events and they put in some fantastic performances, showing what strength we have in our youth team.
