East Riding Athletics Trials
Costello Stadium, Hull – Wednesday 13th June 2015
For the majority of junior and youth athletes throughout England the biggest competition of this and every year is the ‘English Schools Championships’. The 85th meeting of which, will be held in Gateshead on the 10th and 11th of July 2015.
In order to compete at the games the athletes have to attain the set entry standard, which is far from being easy. Once this is attained then they must wait and hope to be chosen to represent their athletic county at the championships. England Athletics decrees that county should be called Humberside.
The East Riding Trials provided a platform for all the young athletes in Hull and East Yorkshire to compete and to try to attain the relevant entry standard for their chosen event. They may attain standards in more than one event but if chosen for the games they can compete in only one event and the athlete must choose which it will be.
The following eight athletes all achieved the requisite entry standards to enable them to compete at Gateshead should they be selected to do so.
Hannah Kynman had already attained the entry standard for the Junior Girls 100 metres with a great run of 12.6s in the clubs first league outing of the season up at Carlisle. She got the standard for the 200 metres at the trials with a blistering run of 26.3s. The Northern indoor champion has started the track & field season in majestic form.
Emily Lyons another of our outstanding young female sprinters also attained the standard at the trials in the Inter Girls 100 metres with an excellent run of 12.6s. Emily then went on to contest the Inter Girls 200 metres where she also attained the required standard. Her recorded time was 26.1s.
Olivia Stevenson is the No. 1 ranked Inter Girls hammer thrower in the UK and is also the UK record holder. She won the 3kg hammer at the trials with a massive throw of 58.81m. Ollie is also a very good discus thrower and she attained the standard in that event as well setting herself a new PB of 37.66m. Ollie has a choice to make soon.
Sophie O’Hara is a very promising and fast improving Inter girl’s discus thrower and she attained the standard at the trials with a big new personal best performance of 35.62m.
Dominic Singh silver medallist at the 2014 Northern Championships and the clubs No.1 Inter Boy’s sprinter attained the standard in the 100 metres with a run of 11.2s.
