England Athletics National Championships

Under 17 and Under 15 years

Bedford International Stadium

The National athletics championships for the under 15 and under 17 age categories were held at the Bedford International Stadium, over the weekend of the 29th and 30th of August.

Six of Kingston’s promising athletes from our youth and junior squads made the journey down south to test themselves against the best youngsters from throughout England. All of them had enjoyed good seasons in their respective national Youth Development Leagues. They had all achieved County selection during the 2015 track and field season, either at the English Schools Championships and/or the Northern Inter Counties Championships.

The Northern 200 metre champion, Dominic Singh, competed in both the 100 and the 200 metre events for under17 men.

In the 200 metres he was drawn in the first heat, where he finished in 2nd place, running a time of 22.25s, which secured his place in the final.

In the final he finished in 6th place and recorded a time of 22.32s.

Dom ran in heat 2 of the 100 metres, where his time of 11.23s gave him a 4th place finish, missing out on a place in the final.

The Northern 75 metre hurdles silver medallist, Venus Morgan, was in action not just in the hurdles event, but she also took in the long jump competition. She was drawn in heat 4 in the 75 metre hurdles, where she ran 11.79s, to take 3rd place and secure a semi final spot. In the semi final she finished in 6th place in 11.94s, missing a place in the final.

In the long jump final, Venus registered a best effort of 4.91m, for a 13th place finish.

Libby Wheeler also competed in the long jump final, where she was placed 12th with a best jump of 4.98m.

Sophie O’Hara competed in the discus final, where she failed to find her best form but still registered a creditable throw of 31.38m.

Amelia Benson ran in heat one of the under 17 women’s 100 metres. Her time of 12.82 was unfortunately not enough to get her into the final.

Young hammer thrower Will Robinson, with just a few months throwing experience behind him, contested his third major final in the last 7 weeks. He threw a distance of 42.55m, to take 10th place in the National Final. It has been an unbelievable first season for Will.
