City of York Open Meeting

Saturday 5th September 2015

A healthy number of athletes made the relatively short journey over to York on Saturday 5th of September, to participate in the City of York Clubs Open Meeting. The York club have a new home this season within the university complex, where a brand new track has been laid, which has proved popular with many athletes.

Kingston’s representatives ranged from our youngest juniors (under 9’s) right through to our most experienced veterans.

Details of the day’s performances are as follows.

There are few serious competitions for under 9 athletes, and 8 year old Freya Vidal usually finds herself competing against under 11’s. At York she enjoyed a good competition against children of her own age.

Freya brought two gold medals back home with her, winning the 75 metre hurdles in 12.6s, and then picking up her second victory of the day, this time in the long jump competition, where she put in a jump of 3.03m. She also ran in the 600 metres race, where she took 5th place, recording a time of2:34.1s.

In the under 11 girls, Tonisha Pickering took 2nd place in the 75 metres race, running a time of 12.7s. She took up the challenge in the shot putt where she threw a new PB of 3.92m, to claim 4th place. Further action for Tonisha came in the long jump competition, where her jump of 3.15m, earned her 5th place.

Connor Pickering and Fabian Vidal, represented the club in the under 13 boy’s events.

Connor was in action in both the high jump and the shot competitions. He took 2nd place in the shot, with a throw of 7.71m, and was placed 4th in the high jump, where he cleared a height of 1.15m.

Fabian joined his club mate Connor in the shot putt, and where he finished in 3rd place, with a throw of 6.45m, which was a new PB. He also competed in the 100 metres race, where he ran 15.8s, for a 3rd place finish.

In the under 15 girl’s 800 metres race, Lucy Savery and multi-eventer Venus Morgan were in action. Venus ran a new PB of 2:34.8s, to take 2nd place, and Lucy took 5th place in 2:39.1s.

Northern Hammer Champion Shaun Kerry was Kingston’s under 15 boy’s representative in the field events. He was in action in the hammer, shot and javelin events, winning all of them, to add another 3 gold medals to his growing collection. The hammer saw Shaun put in a throw of 44.73m, and he launched the javelin out to 35.22m, the shot saw him throw a distance of 11.16m.

On the track, David Morgan-Harrison ran in the under 15 boy’s 100 metres race, where his run of 13.3s gave him a 3rd place finish.

In the under 17 women’s hammer, Shaun’s older sister Sian Kerry, set a new PB of 24.10m, to take a 3rd place finish. Sian also made it a family double in the javelin competition, which she won with a throw of 29.42m.
