King George V Stadium Grimsby

Seven of Kingston’s athletes made the relatively short journey over the Humber Bridge to compete at the last local track & Field Meeting of the 2015 season, which was being held at the King George V Stadium in Grimsby, the home track of both the Grimsby Harriers and the Cleethorpes Athletic Club.

There were some excellent performances from the Hull athletes, and eight new personal bests were set by them, in what was a very successful day out for our young athletes.

Among the outstanding achievements of the day was the performance of 12 year old Brody Hinson, who has only been training at Costello for a few short months, under the expert eye of sprint coach Paul Curtis. He competed in both the 100 and 200 metres sprint competitions at Grimsby.

Brody won his heat of the 100 metres, setting a new PB of 12.8s, to take his place in the final, later in the day. He stormed to victory in the final, where he once again set a new PB, taking two tenths of a second off his heat time.

In the 200 metres final he collected another victory and set his 3^rd new PB of the day, with a great run of 26.3s.

Sophie O’Hara, the number 5 ranked discus thrower in Yorkshire, continued her fine run of form with a victory in the discus competition. For good measure, the two times English Schools Championships finalist, and reigning Humberside Champion, registered a new PB of 35.70m

15 year old Brett Dorley has suffered with hamstring problems throughout 2015 and has had a frustrating season. He is not back at his best yet, but he was back in competition at the King George Stadium. He ran in the 100 and the 200 metres finals, taking 2^nd place in both. He recorded a time a time of 12.1s, in the 100 and ran the 200 in 25.3s.

Sophie McIntyre is in her first competitive season with Kingston, having made her debut at the clubs open meeting in April of 2015. She has represented the junior team in the National Youth Development League and is learning her trade in ‘Open’ competitions. She set two new PB’s at Grimsby, the first was in heat 3 of the 100 metres, which she ran in a time of 15.0s, and the second was in heat 1 of the 200 metres where she clocked 31.5s. She also ran in the 70 metres hurdles race where she recorded a time of 14.4s.

9 years old Freya Vidal is in her debut season with the club and she has been making steady progress at ‘Open Meetings’ throughout the 2015 track & field season. She ran a new PB of 13.6s, to take 3^rd place in heat 2 of the 80 metres sprint. A run of 26.5s in heat 1 of the 150 metres gave her 5^th place. She also competed in the long jump, where she set a second new PB of the day with a leap measuring 3.06m.

Older brother Fabian Vidal, took 4^th place in heat 2 of the 100 metres, running a time of 15.7s. He saw further competition in the long jump and the shot putt events. The long jump saw him register a distance of 3.83m, and in the shot he threw 5.85m.

13 years old Emily Dye specialises in sprints, hurdles and long  jump. She ran in heat 2 of the 100 metres race, taking 5^th place in 14.6s. In the long jump competition her best effort of 4.11m, gave her a 5^th place finish.
