Cleethorpes Athletic Clubs annual cross country races, on the resorts beach, were held on Sunday 11th October 2015. The event attracted 275 entrants from runners based around the Humber estuary. Athletes of all ages from under 11’s up to veterans took part in the competition.
The competitors enjoyed some fine weather, which made for excellent running conditions.
Four of Kingston’s junior athletes journeyed over to the Lincolnshire coast, to take part in the races.
15 years old Martha Savage is a valued member of the clubs youth team, and her efforts in the middle distance events in the Youth Development League during the 2015 track and field season, were much appreciated, and she played no small part in the team’s successful promotion campaign.
Martha ran in the under 17 women’s race at Cleethorpes, where she took 7th place and completed the course in a time of 26:07s.
Her younger sister, 12 years old Esther Savage, competed in the under 13 girls race, where she finished in 15th place, completing the race in a time of 10:23s. This was Esther’s cross country debut in the Kingston vest, and there will surely be many more to come.
13 years old Rebecca Chivers is a member of the clubs junior team, and she competes in their league fixtures throughout the spring and summer. She is a talented young athlete, equally adept in both track and field events, and cross country races.
Rebecca ran in the under 15 girls event, taking a 5th place finish in the race and clocking a time of 11:29s.
Younger brother Alexander Chivers is beginning to show some potential in the middle distance events. He is not the quickest around the course just yet, but he has a ‘big heart’ and never gives up. He ran in the under 13 boys race, finishing in 20th place where he recorded a time of 14:37s.
