Sheffield Indoor Open Meeting

Sunday 31st January 2016

Eighteen of Kingston’s junior and youth team athletes travelled to Sheffield on the last day of January, to compete in the latest of the very popular Sheffield Indoor Open meetings. The ages of our athletes ranged from 9 years up to 19 year olds.

Under 20’s

The 2016 Northern indoor 60 metre champion Joe Cooper was drawn in the first race of the senior men’s competition. He suffered a strained hamstring but still completed the race, where he finished 4th in 7.19s, a very good time for the circumstances. Joe will be out of action for the next few weeks, but I am sure he will be back, fit and eager for the track & field season.

Jonny Beharrell took another step on his road to full fitness with a run out in race 2 of the 800 metres, where he put in a season’s best performance of 1:57.54s to take 2nd place in the race. Like Joe everyone hopes for a big track & field season for Jonny.

Josh Taylor-Brown went in race 2 of the 1500 metres where he claimed a 3rd place finish, with a season’s best run of 4:23.49s. Josh also tweaked his hamstring, but hopefully the damage is not too serious.

The England International, English Schools Champion and double Northern Champion Charlotte Paterson picked up another sprint double, winning both the 60 metres and 200 metres races,

Charlotte was drawn in race 10 of the 60 metres, which she won in a time of 7.65s, and she won race 13 of the 200 metres in a season’s best time of 24.66s.

Fellow training group member Chloe Constable ran in race 20 of the 60 metres, where she finished in 6th place, running a time of 8.73s.

Kyle Foster had his second outing of the year at Sheffield, in what is his second year with Kingston. He is a promising young 400 and 800 metres runner who is making steady progress with his coach Sonia Santos.

He was the winner of race 4 in the 800 metres, and he covered the two lap race in a time of 2:12.82s.

David Morgan-Harrison is another of the club’s first year under 17’s he is an up and coming young sprinter, who shows lots of potential for the future. He took on both the sprint races at this meeting.

In comparison Connor Pickering is a relative old stager, though still an under 13 athlete he is embarking on his 5th season with the club. He is a good all round athlete who is equally at home as a sprinter, jumper and thrower.
