Spenborough AC ‘Winter Warm Up’

Two of Kingston’s junior athletes made the journey over to Spenborough Athletic Clubs home track, at the Princess Mary Stadium in Cleckheaton, to compete at the club’s ‘Winter Warm Up’ Open meeting.
Both of the youngsters joined our training group in July of last year, and both are preparing for their first track & field season, which will start for all of the club’s athletes on Sunday April the 10th at Kingston’s annual Spring Open meeting at the Costello Stadium.
Tilly Cairns is 10 years old and she made her debut as a Kingston athlete, on the 3rd of September 2015 at the club’s Young Athletes Open meeting, where she ran in the 75 metre and 150 metre sprint races, and also saw action in the long jump event. Two days later she donned her Kingston vest for the second time , at a Humberside League meeting at Scunthorpe AC’s Quibell Park, where she won the 150 metre sprint and took 3rd place in the long jump.
She had her first outing of 2016 at the Cleckheaton Winter Warm Up, where she in competition in the 75 metre and 150 metre sprints, and also in the long jump.
The 75 metres sprint saw Tilly in fine form, winning the race and posting a new PB of 11.8s, finishing four tenths of a second ahead of her nearest challenger. She repeated the performance in the 150 metres race, which she also won and set another new PB of 23.8s in the process, this time she was six tenths ahead of the 2nd placed finisher. In the long jump a season’s best effort of 2.74m, saw her take 3rd place.
Adam Fox is 12 years of age and he has packed loads of experience into his first 8 months with the club. He is a prolific runner and rarely misses the weekly Saturday Hull park runs. He made his debut as a Kingston athlete on the 4th of July 2015 in the park run, just two days after his first training session. He was a member of the club’s relay team at the Northern Counties cross country relay championship’s in Sheffield. The Cleckheaton meeting was Adam’s 13th competitive outing of 2016, which has seen him finish 4th at the County cross country championships, and 5th at the Barton cross country event, performances which earned him County selection for last month’s British Inter Counties Championships in Birmingham.
Adam was in action in both the sprint races at Spenborough. He won the 80 metres in a new personal best time of 11.7s, and followed this up with victory in the 150 metres, setting another new PB of 21.4s. He then took on the 1200 metres race, which saw him finish in 3rd place and post his 3rd new PB of the day, running a time of 4:19.4s.
