National Youth Development League
Division Northern East 1 – Match 4
Costello Stadium, Hull – Sunday 24th July 2016
The Kingston Youth teams final league match of the 2016 track & field season took place on home soil at the Costello Stadium in Hull. The club went into this final match holding down 3rd place in the league and with an outside chance of taking second place and the promotion that would go with it, away from the Sheffield and Dearne team. It was a very tall ask and we would have to win this match and Sheffield had to finish in last place.
The team came very close to achieving the target, finishing in second place behind the immensely strong Forth Valley, a composite team made up of the best athletes from all of the clubs between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Sheffield duly finished last and were placed in joint 2nd with Kingston on the league table, with both having a total of 17 league points. However over the course of the season they had amassed more event points and Kingston subsequently dropped down to 3rd place.
Our heartiest congratulations go to both Team Forth Valley and Sheffield and Dearne, we hope they have another successful season in 2017 in the Northern East Premier Division.
Three other teams were involved in the match, Doncaster Athletic Club, South of Humber which is a joint team drawing on athletes from Lincoln Wellington AC, together with the Scunthorpe and Cleethorpes clubs and HAWKS another composite team of athletes drawn from the Scarborough, Harrogate and Wetherby clubs.
Doncaster finished in 4th place safe in this division for another season, with South of Humber in 5th and Hawks 6th relegated to Northern East 2 next year.
As always our athletes gave their full 100% and would have given more if it was possible. There were a host of PB’s and some absolutely outstanding performances across all of the events. For some of them it was their swan song in the under 20’s and they will be senior athletes in 2017 and ineligible for the team. They will be replaced by under 17’s moving up and some of the juniors will move up to become first year under 17’s.
Details of the performances of all the Kingston athletes are as follows.
