Cleethorpes ‘Beach Terrain’ Cross Country Meeting
Sunday 9th October 2016
The annual beach terrain cross country race which is organised by the Cleethorpes Athletic Club was held on the resorts seafront on Sunday 9th of October 2016. It is always a popular event and this year 300 competitors took part in the race.
Four of Kingston’s junior athletes were in competition in the series of individual races which encompassed all age ranges from under 11 year olds and up to senior and veteran athletes.
The under13 boy’s race was contested by a field of twenty two runners which included Kingston’s Adam Fox and Alex Chivers.
12 year old Adam Fox has been training in our junior groups since the summer of 2015 and this year represents his first full cross country and track and field seasons. He has twice been called upon to represent the County in 2016, firstly in March for the cross country championships in Birmingham and then secondly for the track & field Championships which were staged in Nuneaton in September. He represented the Kingston Junior Team in every match during the 2016 track & field campaign.
The starters at Cleethorpes included some of the best young runners in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire and they were involved in a good competitive race where Adam finished in 6th place and covered the course in a time of 10:43s.
Alex Chivers has been with the club since 2014 and has primarily competed in cross country races and in middle distance events on the track. During 2016 he has also been training with the javelin and shot and discus and has represented the junior team in all of the league matches in the first two of those aforementioned throwing disciplines.
Alex covered the under 13 boy’s course in a time of 12:57s which saw him cross the finishing line in 18th place.
11 year old Lucy Parker joined our junior training groups in April of this year and she made her competitive debut at an Open meeting in Grimsby on the 30th of May. Just 3 weeks later she made her league debut for the junior team up in Darlington and was subsequently selected for the following league fixture over at Bebbington in Cheshire in July.
Lucy ran her first cross country race in the Kingston vest at the Cleethorpes meeting where she was in a field of twenty runners. She finished in 17th position and crossed the finishing line in a time of 11:00s
14 year old Becky Chivers has been with Kingston since 2012 and from the very beginning she has shown great versatility, both on the track and cross country as well as showing potential in the jumps and throwing departments. Representative honours have come her way at County level and she is a valued member of the junior team. 2016 though has seen her making steady progress in the javelin throw which culminated with a fantastic gold medal at Middlesbrough’s Northern Championship meeting, having earlier won both the County and County schools titles.
It was back to the cross country circuit for Becky, running in a field of seventeen athletes on the Lincolnshire coast where she finished in 11th position and recorded a time of 12.04s.
