Scunthorpe & District Cross Country Meeting

Quibell Park, Scunthorpe – Sunday 13th November 2016

 

The annual Scunthorpe and District cross country meeting was staged in Quibell Park on Sunday the 13th of November. The event is dedicated to the memory of Allan Balderson and the races cover all age groups from under 11’s upwards, more than 200 runners competed in the various competitions.

Five of Kingston’s senior athletes made the journey over the Humber Bridge to compete in the senior and veteran men’s 10200 metres race, which attracted a field of 64 runners.

Senior athlete and current club captain Gregan Clarkson is a two time World Biathle champion who is a great competitor over any surface and any conditions. He completed the course in a time of 38:16s, crossing the finish line in 2nd place and picking up the silver medal.

(V40) athlete Simon Downs is a member of the clubs road running section who also competes on the track when needed for the senior team in North of England league matches. Simon covered the course in a time of 43:09s and crossed the line in 18th place.

The next athlete to finish was another road runner (V40) Jon Wilson who was the 5000 metres bronze medallist on the track at the 2016 County championships. John ran the course in a time of 48:15s to take 36th place.

Road runner and the reigning County 800 metres champion Rich Harrison was the next Kingston athlete to finish the race crossing the finishing line in 46th place and covering the course in a time of 50:22s.

Senior athlete Martin Ward finished the race in 54th place and the road runner covered the course in a time of 53:33s.

 

Two of the club’s junior athletes were also in action in Quibell Park and both of them put in very good performances.

13 year old Harvey Roberts joined the clubs middle distance training group in September of this year and gained County honours in Septembers Inter County Championships meeting in Nuneaton where he ran the 1500 metres race. Harvey ran in the under 15 boy’s 4500 metres race at the Scunthorpe meeting in which he was the silver medallist completing the course in a time of 19:04s.

10 year old Finlay Southcoat has been a Kingston athlete since August of 2015 and he is the reigning County 80 metres, 150 metres and 600 metres champion. He ran in the under 11 boy’s 2000 metres race where he crossed the finishing line in 4th place, covering the course in a time of  8:09s.
