Sale Harriers Indoor Open Meeting
Sport City Stadium, Manchester

Nine Kingston athletes travelled over to the Sport City Stadium in Manchester on Sunday the 8th of January to compete at the Sale Harriers indoor open meeting, another step in their preparations for the major indoor meetings that are now very clearly on their horizons over the coming weeks.
Northern indoor 60 metres champion Joe Cooper was having his first run out since the end of the track & field season and he ran in the second of the series of 60 metres races where he ran a season’s best time of 7.17s to take 2nd place in the race.
Race 6 of the 60 metres series saw Josh Sampson who has moved up to the under 20’s age category for 2017 having his first competitive race since last August he was the winner of the race and he posted a new PB 7.50s.
Middle distance runner Kyle Foster is another new under 20 this year and he has been looking stronger in training during the winter and this meeting was his first competitive action since the end of the 2016 outdoor season. He ran in race 4 of the 600 metres race series where he claimed a 4th place finish and posted a new PB of 1:29.56s taking 1.88 seconds off his previous best time.
The 2016 County and County schools 100 and 200 metres champion Amelia Benson got her indoor season up and running at Sport City where she competed in both the 60 metres and the 200 metres series. She went in race 10 of the 60 metres where she ran a season’s best time of 8.24s to take a 5th place finish. The 200 metres saw Amelia running in race 9 where she took 4th place and ran another season’s best time of 26.91s.
Amy Sampson and Chloe Constable were seeded together in race 12 of the 60 metres series, Amy who ran in the semi finals at last year’s Northern indoor championships ran a season’s best time of 8.58s which saw her take 3rd place whilst Chloe took 4th place with her season’s best run of 8.79s.
Hannah Kynman had her first run out of the indoor season at the Northern Athletics open meeting in Sheffield at the beginning of December the Sport City meeting was her second competition and she ran in race 17 of the 60 metres where she took 5th place and ran a season’s best time of 8.06s.
This meeting was Cosima Fawcett’s first competitive outing since July of 2016. She was the winner of race 19 of the 60 metres series and she ran a new PB of 8.40s taking a third of a second off her previous best mark.
13 year old Holly Adams enjoyed a fantastic 2016 which began in January when she won the Northern indoor shot title and followed it up in May where she was crowned the County champion a silver medal followed at the Northern track & field championships as well as County honours at the English Schools cup final at Bedford and the Inter County meeting in Nuneaton where she was named one of the athletes of the match. She had her first outing of the indoor season at the Sale meeting where she had to compete in the under 17 shot competition against athletes up to 3 years older than herself. She finished 6th in a field of 14 throwers and she put out a new PB of 9.45m.
