UK Youth Development League (Lower)
Division North East 1 – Match 2
York University Athletics Stadium – Saturday 20th May 2017
The Kingston Junior team’s second league match of the 2017 track & field season saw them make the relatively short journey across to the University complex at York where they faced opposition from teams representing City of York, Hallamshire Harriers, Doncaster AC, Scarborough AC and Rotherham Harriers. This is a competition for athletes in the age categories of under13 and under15 years, which covers everyone aged between 11 and 14 years
After the first match Kingston upon Hull were sitting in 2nd place on the league roster with the City of York Club in third place and a strong Hallamshire Harriers side were the division leaders.
There were some good performances from the youngsters and details of all the Kingston athlete’s endeavours on the day are as follows.
UNDER 13’s
Sprint Races
Zach North was the ‘A’ runner in the 100 metres race where he took 3rd place and ran a time of 15.4 sec whilst Alex Grant in the ‘B’ race ran a season’s best time also 15.4 sec for 4th place.
The 200 metres saw Zach North again running the ‘A’ this time taking 4th place and posting a time of 32.3 sec. In the ‘B’ Sam Marsh ran a new PB of 31.2 sec clipping a tenth of a second off his previous best to take 3rd place.
In the girl’s sprints Lucy Parker took 2nd place in the 75 metres ‘A’ and knocked a tenth of a second off her old best posting a new PB of 11.3 sec and Tilly Cairns finished in 4th place in the ‘B’ with her run of 11.7 sec.
The same two girls were in action again in the 150 metres where Lucy ran a time of 23.1 sec in the ‘A’ for a 4th place finish and Tilly Cairns season’s best run of 23.0 sec saw her take 3rd place in the ‘B’.
Middle Distance
Toby Greensmith ran his first competitive 800 metres in the ‘A’ race where he took a 3rd place finish and set a PB of 2:34.4 sec and in the ‘B’ Sam Marsh also finished in 3rd place and he ran a time of 2:45.9 sec.
In the girl’s 800 metres Meabh Brannigan ran a new PB of 2:44.3 sec in the ‘A’ taking 2.3 seconds off her previous best for a 4th place finish.
In the 1500 metres Finlay Southcoat who was running his first competitive 1500 race took 4th place in the ‘A’ and set a PB of 5:21.6 sec.
The girl’s 1200 metres saw Emma Hoggard running her first competitive race at the distance she went in the ‘A’ where she took 5th place and ran a PB of 4:28.8 sec the ‘B’ saw Charlotte Gray also running her first competitive 1200 metres and she also took a 5th place finish posted a PB of 4:53.9 sec.
Hurdles
Alex Grant took 3rd place in the boy’s 75 metres hurdles ‘A’ race where he ran a time of 17.0 sec and James Iversen took 2nd place in the ‘B’ with his season’s best run of 16.4 sec.
High Jump
Zach North finished equal 2nd in the boys high jump ‘A’ competition where he cleared a height of 1.30 metres and Toby Greensmith was the winner of the high jump ‘B’ where he cleared his personal best height of 1.30 metres.
In the girls Competition Tonisha Pickering cleared a height of 1.15 metres in what was her first competitive high jump event to take 5th place.
Long Jump
Alex Grant jumped a season’s best distance of 4.20 metres in the long jump ‘A’ for 3rd place and Harry Iversen was the winner of the ‘B’ where he jumped a new PB of 3.85 metres 23 centimetres beyond his previous mark.
The girls long jump saw Tonisha Pickering posting a new PB 3.72 metres 27 centimetres beyond her previous best to take 2nd place in the ‘A’ and Beth Moodie’s jump of 3.32 metres in the ‘B’ gave her 3rd place.
Shot Putt
Alex Chivers threw a PB of 6.86 metres for 2nd place in the shot ‘A’ whilst Finlay Southcoat was the winner of the ‘B’ where he threw a new PB of 5.86 metres 48 centimetres beyond his previous best.
The girl’s shot saw Tonisha Pickering add 2 centimetres to her best in the ‘A’ to take 6th place and set a new PB of of 5.12 metres whilst Beth Moodie threw a PB of 5.05 metres to take 4th place in the ‘B’.
Javelin
Alex Chivers and Harry Iversen completed a club double in the javelin where Alex threw a new PB of 23.22 metres 39 centimetres beyond his previous mark to win the ‘A’ and Harry threw 17.60 metres in his first javelin competition to establish a PB and win the event.
The girls javelin saw Beth Moodie in the ‘A’ take 6th place with a throw of 4.55 metres and Meabh Brannigan in her first javelin competition also took 6th place with a PB of 6.41 metres in the ‘B’
Under 15’s
Sprint Races
In the 100 metres sprint Luke Carr was the ‘A’ runner and he finished in 5th place and ran a time of 13.7 sec Jack Singleton went in the ‘B’ where he too took a 5th place finish and posted a time 14.4 sec.
The 200 metres sprint saw Adam Fox running the ‘A’ race where he ran a time of 28.1 sec for a 5th place finish and Luke Carr also finished 5th and he too recorded a time of 28.1 sec.
In the girls 100 metres ‘A’ race Daisy Logan ran a personal best time of 13.4 sec to clinch a 2nd place finish and Gina De Lancey also ran a PB of 14.3 sec in the ‘B’ to take 4th place.
Daisy Logan was also in action in the 200 metres ‘A’ race where she was again the runner up and she shaved 2 tenths of a second off her best time running a new PB of 27.4 sec. In the ‘B’ Emily Dye was also a 2nd place finisher running a season’s best time of 29.8 sec.
The boys 300 metres race saw Harry Hudson making his league debut in the ‘A’ where he took 2nd place and established a PB of 40.7 sec whilst Adam Fox took 3rd place in the ‘B’ where he ran a new PB of 42.8 sec clipping 8 tenths of a second off his previous best.
The girls 300 metres saw Jodie Martin running a season’s best time of 45.3 sec in the ‘A’ for 2nd place and in the ‘B’ Alanah Thoresby ran a new PB of 45.4 sec taking 8 tenths of a econd off her old best mark to also take a 2nd place finish.
Middle Distance
The boys 800 metres race saw Harry Hudson back in action in the ‘A’ where he claimed a 2nd place finish and ran a PB of 2:08.7 sec and Callum Featherstone also took 2nd place in the ‘B’ where he ran a new PB of 2:13.0 sec taking 5.9 seconds off his previous best time.
The Northern silver medallist Jodie Martin was back on the track in the girls 800 metres ‘A’ and she was the winner of the race running a new PB of 2:22.8 sec taking 3 seconds off her old time and Ella-Shaw-Hall took 4th place in the ‘B’ with her run of 2:48.6 sec.
The boys 1500 metres saw training partners Harvey Roberts in the ‘A’ and Tom Smales in the ‘B’ Harvey took 3rd place running a time of 4:54.5 sec whilst Tom took 2nd place in his race where he ran a new PB of 4:55.3 sec 3.7 seconds beyond his previous best.
Hurdles
Emily Dye was the winner of the 75 metres hurdles ‘A’ race where she ran a season’s best time of 13.7 sec.
High Jump
Oliver Adnitt was the winner of boys high jump competition where he cleared a new personal best height of 1.40 metres 2 centimetres above his old best.
The girls competition saw Ellie Townsend extending her current run of form with a clearance of 1.53 metres in the ‘A’ to take 3rd place whilst in the ‘B’ Rosie Shepherd cleared a season’s best height of 1.35 metres to finish equal 2nd in her competition.
Long Jump
The boys long jump saw Connor Pickering jump a season’s best of 4.18 metres in the ‘A’ for 4th place and in the ‘B’ Oliver Adnitt took 3rd place with his effort of 3.81 metres
Alanah Thoresby took 5th place in the girls ‘A’ with her jump of 4.31 metres and Emily Dye was 4th in the ‘B’ with 4.13 metres.
Shot Putt
Ben Copley was the winner of the ‘A’ with his throw of 12.28 metres and Antony Mould took 2nd place in the ‘B’ with his effort of 7.24 metres.
The Northern indoor silver and bronze medallists Holly Adams and Indigo Atkin were in action for Kingston and they won both competitions with Holly’s throw of 9.98 metres winning the ‘A’ and Indigo winning the ‘B’ with her effort of 9.84 metres.
Discus
Ben Copley is the No. 2 ranked discus thrower in the UK and chalked up another victory in the ‘A’ with his throw of 43.96 metres and County bronze medallist Antony Mould took 2nd place in the ‘B’ with a new PB of 24.98 metres, an increase of 52 centimetres on his previous best.
In the girls ‘A’ event Holly Adam’s throw of 25.21 metres gave her another victory and in the ‘B’ Jess Townsend was the winner of the event with a new personal best throw of 23.81 metres an increase of 93 centimetres on her old mark.
Hammer
County Champion Antony Mould was the winner of the hammer ‘A’ where he threw a distance of 29.85 metres and in the ‘B’ Connor Pickering in his first competitive hammer competition was the winner of the event and he established a PB of 22.45 metres.
In the girls competition Jess Townsend won the ‘A’ with a new personal best throw of 15.69 metres increasing her old best by 4.68 metres.
Javelin
Ben Copley collected his third victory of the day in the ‘A’ launching out an enormous throw of 52.28 metres which moved him up to the No. 2 slot in the UK javelin rankings. The ‘B’ event saw Connor Pickering having his first competitive throw with the heavier 600 gram javelin and he threw a PB of 22.45 metres to finish in 2nd place.
The girls competition brought Holly Adams back to the action and she took 3rd place in the ‘A’ with a throw of 22.12 metres and Esther Savage was the winner of the ‘B’ with her throw of 21.23 metres.
Relays
Under 13 Girls – 4 x 100 Metres
The under 13 girls team of Lucy Parker, Tilly Cairns, Tonisha Pickering and Beth Moodie finished in 3rd place and they ran a time of 61.6 sec.
Under 13 Boys – 4 x 100 Metres
The boys team of Alex Grant, Zach North, Finlay Southcoat and Sam Marsh finished in 4th place and their recorded time was 61.7 sec.
Under 15 Girls – 4 x 100 Metres
The girls team of Daisy Logan, Gina De Lancey, Holly Adams and Rosie Shepherd finished in 5th place and their time was 56.4 sec.
Under 15 Boys – 4 x 100 Metres
The boys team comprised of Luke Carr, Adam Fox, Jack Singleton and Harvey Southcoat finished in 5th place in 54.4 sec.
Under 15 Girls – 4 x 300 Metres
The girls team of Alanah Thoresby, Emily Dye, Jodie Martin and Ella Shaw-Hall took 3rd place and they ran a time of 3:11.7 sec.
Under 15 Boys – 4 x 300 Metres
The boys team consisted of Harry Hudson, Callum Featherstone, Tom Smales and Adam Fox and they finished in 2nd place with their recorded time of 2:56.1 sec.
