UK Youth Development League – Northern Premier East

The third league match of the 2017 track & field season took the Kingston youth team to the athletics track at the City of York University, it has been a year of struggle for the team which has been severely depleted at all of the matches our individual athletes gave 100% to the cause but they were simply overwhelmed by the massive number of competitors that came south with the two Scottish composite teams.
The teams in competition with us on the day were City of York AC, Middlesbrough Mandale, Gateshead Harriers, Team Edinburgh and Kingdom Athletics.
Details of performances by all of Kingston upon Hull AC’s athletes are as follows.
Under 17’s
The men’s 100 metres race saw Jack Perry the County and County Schools 100 metres champion take 5th place in the ‘A’ race where he ran a time of 11.80 sec and in the ‘B’ the County and County schools silver medallist David Morgan-Harrison’s run of 11.90 sec gave him 2nd place. David Morgan-Harrison was the ‘A’ athlete in the 200 metres and his run of 24.02 sec gave him a 5th place finish and Nathan Cuthbert the bronze medallist at the County and County schools took 5th place in the ‘B’ race where he ran a time of 24.53 sec.
In the women’s sprints Hannah Kynman was the winner of the 100 metres ‘A’ running a season’s best time of 12.49 sec just one hundredth of a second outside the County Champions personal best and Jennifer Hopkinson put in another solid performance in the ‘B’ taking 3rd place and running a season’s best time of 13.67 sec. The 200 metres saw Hannah Kynman complete the sprint double winning the ‘A’ race where she clocked a time of 25.76 sec Kate Huntington was the ‘B’ runner in the 200 metres and she took a 5th place finish running a time of 29.69.sec. The men’s 400 metres saw Joe Seed put in a strong performance to take 3rd place in the ‘A’ race with his run of 54.97 sec.
The men’s 800 metres saw Callum Wilkinson making his debut appearance for Kingston in the ‘A’ race where he took 4th place and ran a new PB of 2:11.04 sec knocking 4.06 seconds off his old best time. In the women’s 800 metres ‘A’ race Daisy Evans ran a season’s best time of 2:41.89 sec for a 5th place finish and the women’s 1500 metres featured Katy Greenacre who was having her second competitive run of the season in the ‘A’ where she was a 4th place finisher and recorded a new PB of 5:38.66 sec taking 2.64 seconds off her old time
The 100 metres sprint hurdles saw Adam Coles the Northern indoor champion and County and County Schools champion going in the ‘A’ where he was the race winner and posted a time of 14.09 sec whilst in the women’s ‘A’ race County bronze medallist Paige Mathers’ run of 14.07 sec gave her 4th place.
In the men’s long jump the 2015 English Schools champion Jack Perry was the winner of the ‘A’ event with an effort of 6.10 metres and Adam Coles was the winner of the ‘B’ with his jump of 5.89 metres. It was a Kingston double victory in the women’s event as well with the England Indoor championships bronze medallist Libby Wheeler jumping 5.52 metres in the ‘A’ and the fast improving Abbie Haigh winning the ‘B’ with her leap of 4.34 metres.
The men’s high jump ‘A’ saw Philip May who was making his 2017 bow with the youth team take 5th place with a season’s best clearance of 1.40 metres and the women’s high jump ‘A’ saw Abbie Haigh take 3rd place with a clearance at 1.40 metres.
Philip May saw further action in the men’s triple jump ‘A’ where he took 3rd place with a new PB of 11.12 metres increasing his best mark by another 17 centimetres. Two more good performances came in the women’s event with Libby Wheeler winning the ‘A’ with an effort of 11.36 metres and Abbie Haigh claiming 2nd place in the ‘B’ with her jump of 9.41 metres.
Shaun Kerry was the ‘A’ thrower in the men’s shot where he took 2nd place in the competition with a throw of 12.02 metres and training partner Will Robinson was the winner of the ‘B’ with a new PB of 10.74 metres with the 5 kilogram shot.
Will Robinson returned to the fray in the men’s discus where he threw a new PB of 31.28 metres an increase of one centimetre on his best mark to win the competition and in the women’s event Harriet Cannell threw a season’s best effort of 14.50 metres for a 5th place finish.
In the men’s hammer Shaun Kerry the reigning English Schools champion and Northern champion was the winner of the ‘A’ with a throw of 56.77 metres and the winner of the ‘B’ was County Schools champion and Northern bronze medallist Will Robinson with 46.19 metres.
The men’s javelin brought another double victory for Kingston with Nathan Cuthbert winning the ‘A’ launching the javelin out to a distance of 38.72 metres and Shaun Kerry winning the ‘B’ with his throw of 36.00 metres. The women’s event saw Harriet Cannell win the ‘A’ and register a throw of 37.17 metres with Paige Mathers taking 2nd place in the ‘B’ with 27.00 metres.
Under 20’s
Northern 100 metres champion Andy Morgan-Harrison ran in the 100 metres ‘A’ and he led the race for over 90 metres when he felt a hamstring pull and his hand instinctively went down to his thigh he tried to dip for the line but was unable to and crossed the line in 2nd place in a time of 11.01 sec and in the ‘B’ Josh Sampson the County silver medallist took 2nd place with his run of 11.45 sec. The women’s event saw Amy Sampson take 6th place in the ‘A’ running a time of 13.25 sec and Jess Fields took 4th in the ‘B’ with her season’s best run of 13.50 sec.
The men’s 200 metres saw under 17 athlete Robert Tweedale who was making his Kingston debut having to step up and run the ‘A’ race because of Andy’s injury, he put in a tremendous effort taking 6th place and running a time of 24.02 sec. Josh Sampson ran in the ‘B’ where he took 3rd place in 23.41 sec. Amy Sampson was the ‘A’ runner in the women’s 200 metres and her run of 28.02 sec gave her a 5th place finish and Jess Fields finished 5th in the ‘B’ where she recorded a time of 27.81 sec.
The County 400 metres champion Robert Tweedale stepped up once again this time in his main event, he went in the under 20 400 metres ‘A’ race where he took 3rd place and ran a new PB of 51.04 sec taking .66 of a second of his previous best time.
The men’s 400 metre hurdles race was Baldvin Magnusson’s first event of the day and he put in another good performance in his new discipline taking 4th place and running a time of 71.61 sec. In the women’s 400 hurdles Natalie Varga also put on a good performance which saw her take 2nd place in the race and clip 1.82 seconds off her previous mark running a new PB of 68.42 sec.
Baldvin Magnusson returned to the track to run the ‘A’ race in the men’s 800 metres and another good effort saw him take 3rd place running a time of 2:01.08 sec. Martha Savage was the ‘A’ runner in the women’s 800 and her run of 2:39.90 sec saw her take 5th place in the race.
Jack Arnold made his debut in the Kingston vest in the men’s 1500 metres where he ran a time of 4:51.75 sec to take a 5th place finish. The women’s 1500 saw Martha Savage back in action and she put in yet another wholehearted run of 5:52.60 sec to take 5th place.
More action beckoned for Jack Arnold in the 3000 metres running in a punishing race on a hot and humid day he covered the 7 and a half laps in 10:39.21 sec to take 5th place.
The men’s long jump saw Philip May competing in the higher age category and a good performance saw him take 5th place and set a new PB of 5.50 metres 23 centimetres past his previous mark.
In the men’s shot putt County and County Schools champion Josh Tranmer’s throw of 12.98 metres saw him take 2nd place whilst in the women’s event Alice Barnsdale was 3rd in the ‘A’ with a season’s best effort of 8.83 metres and Sian Kerry also put in a season’s best effort of 6.27 metres for 3rd place in the ‘B’.
In the men’s discus Josh Tranmer threw a new PB of 43.59 metres an increase of 81 centimetres on his old mark to take 2nd place in the ‘A’ and in the women’s event a throw of 30.14 metres saw Alice Barnsdale take a 3rd place finish.
The women’s hammer competition saw Alice Barnsdale winning the ‘A’ with her throw of 54.23 metres and Sian Kerry taking 3rd place in the ‘B’ with her season’s best effort of 5.73 metres.
In the women’s javelin competition Sian Kerry took 4th place in the ‘A’ event with her throw of 23.80 metres.

Under 17 Men
4 x 100 metres
The Kingston team consisting of:- Callum Wilkinson, Nathan Cuthbert, Adam Coles and David Morgan-Harrison finished in 3rd place and they ran a time of 46.90 sec.
Under 20 Women
4 x 100 metres
The women’s foursome of Jess Fields, Amy Sampson, Martha Savage and Hannah Kynman finished in 4th place and they ran a time of 54.50 sec.
