Welsh International Athletics Meeting
Cardiff International Stadium – Wednesday 12th July 2017
The annual Welsh under 20’s International track & field meeting was held at the Cardiff International stadium on the evening of Wednesday the 12th of July. It is a four team competition which is contested by Wales and three regional representative teams from England North, England Midlands and England South, it is a full athletics programme and all track & field disciplines are contested.
Two Kingston athletes sprinters Andrew Morgan-Harrison and Charlotte Paterson were selected to represent the England North team. The criteria for selection is daunting for the track & field meeting you must win the Northern title at June’s track & field championships and for the indoor meeting you must win the Northern indoor title. Both Andrew and Charlotte had won the 60 metres gold at this year’s Northern indoor championships and they both backed that up with 100 metres gold medals at Junes Track & field championship meeting.
Charlotte Paterson had made her international debut in the 60 metres at the 2015 Welsh indoor international and she won her 2nd international vest at this Februarys Welsh indoor meeting. She added a third vest to her collection at this July’s track & field meeting where her run of 12.02 sec saw her secure the gold medal in the 100 metres sprint race.
Andrew Morgan-Harrison made his international debut at the 2016 Welsh indoor meeting where he took 4th place in the 200 metres running a time of 22.83 sec, 2017 has seen him do the sprint double at the County championships and he was a 4th place finisher in the 200 metres final at the England indoor championships. He won his second representative vest at the Welsh track & field international where his run of 10.96 sec secured him the bronze medal in the 100 metres final.
