Baldvin Magnusson – First International Vest

Kingston upon Hull AC’s Baldvin Magnusson won his first international vest on Saturday the 11th of November when he represented his home country of Iceland at the annual Nordic Cross Country Championships which this year were staged in Denmark. Five national teams Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and the Faroe Islands were in competition at the event.

The Icelandic selectors contacted Baldvin by telephone two weeks prior to the competition, it came out of the blue and took him by surprise and his immediate thoughts were ‘I was so excited, my first international vest a big achievement’.

His international debut came in the under 20’s race which was contested over a distance of six kilometres, he ran the course in a recorded time of 19:15 sec and he crossed the finishing line in 5th place in the under 20’s and he was placed 6th overall on the day, a massive achievement.

He loved the whole experience and is hungry for more international competition ‘I am looking forward and hoping to get another chance to run for Iceland, i will give everything to try and get there’.

He has put in many top notch performances this year on the cross country circuit as well as on the road and the track but the two most important performances were the 3000 metre race at the Trafford Grand Prix at Stretford in June where he took 4th place and set a new PB of 8:33.66 sec which broke the Icelandic national record. The other race was in Iceland in August where he was the winner of the Reykjavik 10 kilometre race which he ran in a new PB time of 32:48 sec.
