Scunthorpe & District AC Annual Cross County Open
Quibell Park,Scunthorpe – Sunday 12th November 2017
The annual Scunthorpe & District cross country open meeting was staged in the towns Quibell Park on Sunday the 12th of November. Two of Kingston upon Hull AC’s junior middle distance and distance runners Adam Fox and Harvey Roberts were in competition amongst a field of sixteen athletes in the under 15 boy’s 4500 metres race.
Both boys have enjoyed another successful year during 2017 winning County vests in both cross country and track & field competitions. On the track Harvey is the reigning County schools 1500 metre champion and Adam the County 300 metre champion. They are training partners and both are members of the Kingston junior team representing the club in UK Youth Development league matches throughout Northern England.
The battle for the bronze medal in Quibell Park was between the two Kingston runners who were shoulder to shoulder throughout the finishing stages and crossed the line together with Adam just taking the bronze medal running a time of 16:56 sec and Harvey having to settle for 4th place with his run of 16:57 sec.
Both of the boy’s have a lot more competitions ahead of them in the next few months, first up will be the County cross country championships which next January will be held in Costello Park and the surrounding area. The County schools championships follow a few weeks later as does the Barton Open meeting. Good performances at these meetings will give them the chance of County selection for the English Schools cross country championships and can also get them the nod to compete at the National cross country championship event.
