Kingston’s top 2 under 15 high jumpers of 2017 Alanah Thoresby & Ellie Townsend made a good start to their first year in the under 17 age group when taking silver & bronze medals in the Sheffield Festival of Athletics at the magnificent English Institute of Sport indoor arena. Both cleared 1.55m, in Ellie’s case equalling her lifetime best. Both girls showed their versatility with further good performances on both track and field. Ellie rounder off a successful day with a personal best of 8.85 sec in the 60m while Alanah was close to her best in the same event with a time of 8.59 sec. She rounded off her day with an indoor best of 4.64m in the long jump as she continues her preparation for the Northern & National Indoor Pentathlon Championships in March.
Ellie’s twin sister Jess Townsend also began her under 17campaign in Sheffield. The discus specialist will have to wait until the outdoor season starts in the spring to compete in her best event but took the opportunity to take part in the shot where she finished 6th with 6.78m, another lifetime best, to complete a useful trip for the Hull contingent.
Four of the clubs female sprinters were also in action at the Sheffield festival of athletics where Hannah Kynman who has moved up to the under 20 age category for all competitions in 2018, was the first of the quartet out on to the track having been drawn to run in the second race of the senior women’s 60 metre sprint series. The 2017 English schools 100 metre semi finalist took 4th place in the race and ran a time of 8.31 sec. Next in action was Amy Sampson who went in the third 60 metre race where her run of 8.58 sec saw her take a 6th place finish. Chloe Constable who had set new PB’s in each of her previous three races this January lined up for her fourth race of 2018, she was drawn to run in race 4 of the 60 metre series. She got a great start and looked full of confidence as she powered her way to an excellent victory and record yet another new PB of 8.41 sec, clipping 7 hundredths of a second off the time she ran at the Students Open in Loughborough. The month of January has seen Chloe knock 0.26 of a second off her best time in 2017. Jasmin Herbison made her club debut this January at the Sale Open and she had her fourth competitive race at this meeting running in race 6 of the 60 metres where she took a 3rd place finish and posted a time of 8.77 sec.
