East Park Road Race

Kingston upon Hull AC’S Jodie Martin took a break from her track campaign to tackle the East Park road race promoted by East Hull Harriers & AC. This popular annual event run over 2.2 kilometres always attracts a large field of club & unattached runners up to the age of 15 along with a good crowd of spectators and is superbly organised by the host club.

With over 250 young athletes taking part the race began at a frantic pace which settled down after the first few hundred metres as the field began the loop around the lake. Jodie tucked in behind the two leading male runners and kept her place for the first half of the race before breaking clear to come home comfortably clear of the field in a time of 8 min 12 sec, smashing club mate Abbie Haigh’s course record of 8 min 57 sec set in 2015 in the process. Having enjoyed the change of scenery Jodie will now return to the track for the rest of the summer with area and national championship events being her main aims.
