2018 Cross Country Cup – Regional Final

Mount St. Mary’s College, Spinkhill, Sheffield – Saturday 10th November

The English Schools Athletics Association ‘Cross Country Cup’ is an annual National team competition for young athletes aged between 12 years and 16 years of age. It is open to both boys and girls who represent their schools in two age categories. Junior boys and girls who must be aged at least 12 years but under14 and intermediate boys and girls aged at least 14 but under16 years of age.

The first round of this year’s competition, had taken place at the Sir John Nelthorpe College, in Brigg on Saturday 1st of October. The schools from the Humberside region, that qualified, to compete in the regional final, were Wolfreton (Anlaby), South Hunsley (North Ferriby), Longcroft (Beverley) and Sir John Nelthorpe (Brigg). None of the regions four teams, qualified to compete in the final.

12 of Kingston upon Hull AC’s athletes were in competition for their respective schools at the regional final. Their performance details are as follows.

 

Junior Boys Race

Noah Sibary was running for the Wolfreton school team, among a field of 69 athletes, in the junior boy’s race. He covered the course in a time of 11:05 sec, crossing the finish line in 24th place. South Hunsley pupil Nathan Hope took 55th place in the race , running the course in a time of 12:12 sec.

Teams from 13 individual schools competed in the race. The South Hunsley team, finished in 10th place, and the Wolfreton team were 12th.

 

Junior Girls Race

Two Kingston athletes were in action, in the junior girls race, competing in a field of 79 runners. Both of the girls were representing, the South Hunsley School team. Meabh Brannigan was the first of the girls home, running the course in 10:17 sec, crossing the finish line in 23rd place. Anya Beetham crossed the finish line in 58th position. She covered the course, in a time of 11:14 sec.

Teams from 15 individual schools competed in the race. The South Hunsley team finished in 13th place.

Intermediate Boys Race

The intermediate boys race featured three Kingston athletes, in the field of 74 runners. All three boys are training partners, one was running for South Hunsley and the other two for Longcroft. The race saw yet another outstanding performance, from the  South Hunsley pupil Thomas Smales, who was the 5th place finisher in the race. He ran the course in a time of 15:12 sec. Longcroft’s Adam Fox was the next of the trio to cross the finish line, running the course in a time of 16:25 sec, taking 22nd place. Oliver Adnitt, finished three places behind Adam, crossing the finish line in 25th position, with his run of 16:28 sec.

14 schools contested the intermediate boys race. South Hunsley finished in 7th place. Longcroft were placed 10th.

 

Intermediate Girls Race

The intermediate girls race, had a field of 62 runners which contained five Kingston athletes. Four of the girls, were running for South Hunsley and the fifth girl was running for Wolfreton. The first of the girls to cross the finish line, was South Hunsley’s Hermione Pickering, who ran the course, in a time of 11:05 sec. Jessica Waugh, of South Hunsley was the second of the girls to finish, crossing the line in 17th place, clocking a time of 11:28 sec. Another South Hunsley pupil, Emilia Russell, took 21st place, running the course, in a time of 11:41 sec. Longcroft pupil, Ella Shaw-Hall, crossed the finish line in 29th place, covering the course, in a time of 12:10 sec. Another South Hunsley pupil, Aimee Campbell, ran the course in a time of 12:23 sec, to come home in 36th place.

Pupils representing 12 schools, were in competition in the intermediate girls race. The South Hunsley team finished in 4th place, whilst the Wolfreton team were placed 10th.
