Spenborough & District Spring Open Meeting
Princess Mary Stadium, Cleckheaton – Sunday 24th March 2019
Ten Kingston athletes travelled over to Cleckheaton’s, Princess Mary stadium on Sunday the 24th of March, to compete at their first open meeting, of the 2019 track & Field season. There was a healthy turnout of athletes, representing clubs from every part of Northern England and the Isle of Man.
Performance details of all the Kingston athletes are as follows
Under 11’s
Pheobe Moore made her club debut, at this meeting, where she competed in three events, the 150 metres sprints, long jump and shot putt. The 150 metres saw her take a 7th place finish, in the race, where she established a PB of 30.9 sec, for the distance. The long jump saw her, take a 12th place finish, and establish a PB of 1.90 metres. In the shot event, she was the 2nd place finisher, establishing a PB of 2.96 metres.
Under 13’s
Olivia Doyle made her club debut in June 2018, in a Humber track league meeting at Costello, where she was in action, in the 100 metre sprints, and the long jump. At Cleckheaton, she was in competition in both the 80 metres and 150 metres sprints, as well as the long jump. She took 2nd place in the 80 metres race, establishing a PB of 11.5 sec, for the distance. She also took a 2nd place finish in the 150 metres race, where she established a PB of 22.1 sec. The long jump event, gave her another 2nd place finish, leaping to a new PB of 3.65 metres, an improvement of 17 centimetres.
Under 15’s
Sprinter Elsa Thompson’s debut appearance came at the 2018 Kingston September open meeting, where she saw action in the 100 and 200 metre sprints, and the long jump. Establishing PB’s in all three events. 24 hours later she ran at the Wakefield open meeting, setting new PB’s in both of the sprints. The Cleckheaton open saw her take 1st place in race 2 of the 200 metres series, running a season’s best time of 26.9 sec. Further action came in the 300 metres sprints, which was the first time that she had run over the distance. She took 2nd place in the race, establishing a PB for the distance, of 44.3 sec.
Pentathlete Lydia Moore, the older sister of Pheobe, was in competition in the shot, javelin and long jump events. She was the winner of the shot competition, throwing a new PB of 7.97 metres, an improvement of 51 centimetres. The javelin event saw her throwing the heavier 500 gram javelin, for the first time. She took 8th place in the competition establishing a PB of 15.98 centimetres, with the 500 javelin. The long jump saw her take a 13th place finish, with her leap of 3.75 metres.
This year has seen Beth Moodie leave the under 13’s behind her, making the move up to the under 15’s age category. Her chosen events at Cleckheaton were the high jump, javelin and long jump competitions. The high jump event saw her take 4th place, going clear at a new PB height of 1.20 metres, an improvement of 10 centimetres. This was her first competition with the heavier javelin, moving up from the 400 gram, to the 500 gram javelin. She took a 4th place finish, establishing a PB of 21.95 metres. The long jump saw her put in a season’s best leap of 3.70 metres.
Under 17’s
Middle distance runner Adam Fox, has been beset with injury problems, throughout the 2018/2019 cross country season. It has been a frustrating time for him. He has competed at events, but was unable to perform to his full potential. He travelled to the Spenborough meeting, for his first run on the track this year, hoping for the best. He ran in the 800 metres race, which was won by the English National cross country champion, Alexander Thompson, of Wharfedale/Bingley. Adam put in good performance, looking much more like his old self, taking 3rd place in the race, running a new PB of 2:08.7 sec, an improvement of 1.2 sec.
Hammer thrower Antony Mould, the 2018 Northern championships bronze medallist, had his first outing of 2019 at this meeting. He was the 2nd place finisher, throwing a new PB of 44.17 metres, an improvement of 1.69 metres. He was also due to compete in the discus event, but it was cancelled for logistical reasons.
Combined eventer Emilia Russell, was in action in three events. Javelin, long jump and the 200 metres sprint. She was the winner of the javelin competition, launching a new PB of 25.89 metres, an improvement of 77 centimetres. She was the 4th place finisher, in the 200 metres, where she put in her season’s best run of 29.5 sec. The long jump saw her take 2nd place, with a leap of 4.34 metres.
Under 20’s
Sprinter Cosima Fawcett, continued her build up, to the track & field season. She ran in the senior women’s 100 metres race, taking a 4th place finish, running a new PB of 13.3 sec, an improvement of 2 tenths of a second.
Senior Men
Decathlete Simon Downs continued his preparations for the new season. His events at this meeting were the 400 metres sprint and the javelin throw. He was the winner of the 400 metres, where he ran a new PB of 57.3 sec, an improvement of 3 seconds. In the javelin event, he took 2nd place, throwing a season’s best distance of 37.57 metres.
