Scunthorpe & District AC – Winter Warm Up Open Meeting
Quibell Park Scunthorpe – Sunday 31st March 2019
A large contingent of Kingston athletes, travelled over the Humber to Scunthorpe, on Sunday the 31st of March, to compete at the Scunthorpe and District, winter warm up open meeting.
Performance details for all of the Kingston athletes are as follows.
Under 11 Girl’s
The under 11 girl’s 80 metre sprint competition, comprised of two heats, followed by a final. Amelia Fraser was drawn to run in the first of the heats, where she took a 4th place finish, running a time of 18.2 sec and qualified to run in the final. In the 80 metres final she was the 5th place finisher, putting in her season’s best run of 14.4 sec. Amelia saw further track action in the 150 metre sprints competition, which was a straight final. She ran another season’s best time of 27.2 sec, taking a 5th place finish. Also in action in the 150 metre final, was Phoebe Moore, who was running in only her second competitive race, having made her debut, the previous week, at the Cleckheaton open. She took 8th place in the race, running a time of 31.4 sec. Both Amelia and Phoebe, were in further competition in the long jump event, where Amelia took 6th place, with her season’s best leap of 2.43 metres. Phoebe jumped a new PB of 1.96 metres, an increase of 6 centimetres, for a 7th place finish.
Under 13 Girl’s
The under13 girls 80 metres sprint competition, consisted of three heats and a final. Two Kingston athletes were in action, in the event. Chloe Sutton was drawn to run in heat one, where she took 3rd place, running a time of 12.6 sec, which saw her qualify for the final. Ruby Watts ran in the second heat, taking 6th place, with her run of 16.3 sec, which was not enough to get her into the final. The 80 metres final saw Chloe Sutton run her season’s best time of 12.5 sec, to take 5th place in the race. Chloe Sutton also competed in the 150 metres sprints event, where was drawn to run in first heat. She ran her season’s best time of 23.7 sec, but missed the cut for the final. Ruby Watts was in further action, in the field events, taking 7th place in the shot putt, with her throw of 4.00 metres. Her leap of 1.97 metres in the long jump, gave her a 17th place finish.
Under 13 Boy’s
This open meeting marked Owen Foster’s Kingston debut, he competed in the 80 metres sprints, long jump and shot. The under 13 boy’s 80 metres event consisted of two heats, followed by the final. Owen was drawn to run in the second heat, where he took a 2nd place finish, establishing a PB of 12.7 sec, which saw him qualify for the final. In the 80 metres final he took 3rd place in the race, running a new PB of 12.2 sec, taking half a second off his time in the heat. The shot competition saw him take a 2nd place finish, and establish a PB of 5.27 metres, for the shot discipline. In the long jump competition, he took 6th place, establishing a PB, with his leap of 3.54 metres.
Under 15 Boy’s
Gabriel Li La-Vigars was in action in the 80 metres sprint, hammer throw, and long jump competitions. In what was his first run, over the 80 metres distance, he was the winner of the race, establishing a PB of 11.1 sec. He was also the winner of the long jump event, with his leap of 4.49 metres setting a new PB, an improvement of 8 centimetres on his old mark. In the hammer event, he claimed his third victory of the day. His throw of 29.42 metres with the 4 kilo hammer, was also a new PB, an improvement of 8.58 metres, on his previous best mark. Finlay Southcoat had his first run out of 2019, at this meeting, where he competed in the 150 metres, 300 metres and the shot. In the 150 metres sprint, he took 2nd place in the race, running a new PB of 21.1 sec, an improvement of 2.1 seconds. The shot, saw him throwing the 4 kilo shot, for the first time, he took 2nd place in the event, establishing a PB of 7.17 metres. The 300 metres sprint was a mixed race of under15 girls and boys. Finlay, who was running the 300 metres, for the first time, was the race winner, and established a PB of 44.5 sec.
Under 15 Girl’s
Lydia Moore also ran, in the fore mentioned, mixed 300 metres race, which was also her first competitive race over the distance. She was the 6th place finisher, establishing a PB of 50.9 sec. She saw further action, in the long jump and shot events, with her training partner Izzy Watts. Lydia leapt to a season’s best distance of 3.93 metres, in the long jump, for a 6th place finish. Izzy was the 9th place finisher, with her season’s best jump of 3.63 metres. Izzy was the winner of the shot event, throwing a season’s best distance of 8.49 metres. Lydia took 3rd place, throwing a new PB of 8.21 metres. Izzy also made her debut appearance in the hammer circle, where she was the event winner, and established a PB of 24.15 metres. 2nd place in the hammer, went to Amy Rothery, who pulled out her season’s best throw of 15.30 metres.
Under 17 Men
Harvey Southcoat made his 2019 bow, at this meeting. He was in competition in both the 150 metres and 300 metres sprint races. The 150 race saw him take a 5th place finish, running a new PB of 19.4 sec, an improvement of 2.5 sec. In the 300 metres he took a 3rd place finish, running a new PB of 41.1 sec, an improvement of one sec. The winner of the 300 metre race, was Adam Fox, another member of his training group. Adam ran a new PB of 38.6 sec, an improvement of 1.4 sec.
Under 17 Women
Four Kingston athletes, contested the under 17 women’s 80 metres race. The winner of the race was Lauren McClean, who ran a new PB of 11.2 sec, an improvement of 1.5 sec. The second place finisher was Emily Dye, who ran a new PB of 11.3 sec, an improvement of 1.4 sec. Ellie Townsend took 5th place, she too ran a new PB of 11.9 sec, an improvement of 1.4 sec. Sophie McIntyre, who was having her first competitive run, since the summer of 2018, took a 6th place finish, running a new PB of 12.0 sec, an improvement of 1.1 sec. The 150 metres competition, consisted of two heats and a final, five Kingston athletes ran in the event. Heat one saw Emily Dye, Sophie McIntyre and Emilia Russell, in action. Emily took 2nd place in the race, running a new PB of 20.6 sec, an improvement of 1.4 sec. A 4th place finish, went to Sophie McIntrye, who was running in her first 150 metre race, she established a PB of 21.8 sec. Emilia Russell, who was running her first 150 metre race since 2015, was the 5th place finisher, posting a new PB of 21.9 sec, an improvement of 5.7 sec. In heat 2 Ellie Townsend and Rosie Shepherd flew the Kingston Flag. Ellie was the winner of the race, running a new PB of 21.7 sec, an improvement of 3.4 sec. Rosie took 3rd place, and she too ran a new PB of 22.0 sec, an improvement of 2.4 sec. Emily Dye and Ellie Townsend, went forward to contest the final, where Emily took 2nd place, running a time of 21.2 sec, whilst Ellie took 5th place, with her run of 22.5 sec. In the long jump event, Lauren McClean took 3rd place with her season’s best effort of 4.44 metres. Emilia Russell was the 4th place finisher, with her leap of 4.40 metres. In 5th was Rosie Shepherd, with her season’s best jump of 4.31 metres, and Sophie McIntyre, took 6th place with her season’s best jump of 3.77 metres. The under 17 women’s shot competition, saw Emilia Russell take 3rd place, with her throw of 8.85 metres. Lauren McClean took 5th place, throwing a new PB of 8.33 metres, an improvement of 55cm, and Rosie Shepherd was the 6th place finisher, she also threw a new PB of 7.59 metres, an improvement of 22cm. There was also a one mile race, which was open to both male and female athletes, in the age groups under13/15 and under 17. Adam Fox took 2nd place in the race, establishing a PB of 5:09.2 sec, Georgina North took 8th place, establishing a PB of 5:48.6 sec. Amy Rothery was placed 19th, and established a PB of 6:48.9 sec. The race winner was Oliver Donkin of Barton & District AC, who ran a new PB of 5:01.2 sec, an improvement of 20.45 sec, on his mile run in 2017.
Senior Women
The senior women’s 150 metres sprint race, was Megan Hoult’s first run out of the year. She was the winner of the race, running a season’s best time of 19.5 sec. Sonia Santos took 2nd place, she too run her season’s best time of 20.0 sec. Jess Fields had her second competitive race of this year, competing in the 300 metres race, where she took a 5th place finish, running her season’s best time of 48.7 sec.
Senior Men & Women
Joe Cooper was the winner of his first ever 80 metres sprint race, and established a PB of 9.6 sec. Sonia Santos took 2nd place in the race, running her season’s best time of 10.7 sec, and Chloe Constable took 3rd place, running a new PB of 10.9 sec, an improvement of half a second. Gregan Clarkson was the winner of a mixed 5000 metres race, covering 12 and a half laps in a season’s best time of 16:31.6 sec.
Senior Men
Sprinter Joe Cooper and decathlete Simon Downs, both ran in only their second 150 metres race. Joe was the winner of the race, running a new PB of 17.3 sec an improvement of 1.9 sec. Simon took 5th place in the race, running a new PB of 18.7 sec, an improvement of 2.3 sec.
