North of England Track & Field League – Division 2EC

Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster – Sunday 19th May 2019

The Kingston senior team’s opening fixture, of the 2019 track & field season, was staged at the Keepmoat Stadium, in Doncaster,on Sunday the 19th of May. It was a six team competition, and our opposing teams, were, Sheffield & Dearne, Derby, Doncaster, Hallamshire, and Rotherham.

The winners of the match were, Sheffield & Dearne, who collected 6 league points, and 377 match points. Rotherham took 2nd place, with 5 league and 368 match points. 3rd with 4 league and 366 match points, were Derby. Kingston took 4th place, with 3 and 344 points, with Doncaster 5th, on 2 and 298. 6th place went to Hallamshire, with 1 league and 296 match points.

The Kingston squad, was a mix of senior, under20’s under17’s, and Masters athletes.   

Performance Details for all of the Kingston Athletes are as follows

Men’s Sprints

Josh Sampson, ran in the 100 metres ‘A’ race, where he took a 5th place finish, running a time of 11.5 sec. The ever dependable James Wardle, ran in the 100 metres ‘B’, covering for team mate Joe Cooper, who had gone down with a virus. His season’s best run of 12.2 sec, gave him a 5th place finish. In the 200 metres, Josh Sampson took a 2nd place finish, in the ‘A’, running his season’s best time, of 22.6 sec. Under 17, Callum Featherstone, ran his first 200 metres race, in the ‘B’, taking 6th place, and establishing a PB of 26.7 sec. The 400 metre sprints, saw decathlete Simon Downs, take 5th place in the ‘A’, running a time of 56.6 sec. Under17, Oliver Adnitt, ran in his first 400 metres race, where he took 3rd place in the ‘B’, establishing a PB of 55.5 sec.   

Women’s Sprints

Under 17’s Alanah Thoresby and Ellie Townsend, covered the 100 metres. Alanah took 5th place in the ‘A’, running a new PB of 12.9 sec, clipping 6 tenths off her old time. In the ‘B’, Ellie also took a 5th place finish, she too ran a new PB of 13.7 sec, a 5 tenths improvement. The 200 metres, saw under 17 Emily Dye, take a 5th place finish, in the ‘A’, running a time of 27.2 sec. In the ‘B’ Alanah Thoresby, took 4th place, she also ran a time of 27.2 sec. The 400 metres, saw former English Schools champion, Charlotte Paterson, take victory in the ‘A’, running her fastest hand timed 400, of 57.5 sec. Jess Cappleman, took 4th place in the 400 ‘B’, running a new PB of 62.5 sec, a improvement of 9 tenths.

Men’s Middle Distance

Callum Featherstone, took 5th place in the 800 metres ‘A’, running his season’s best time of 2:09.2 sec. In the ‘B’, Jack Brothwell, took a 4th place finish, running his season’s best time of 2:23.4 sec. The 1500 metres, saw Under 17’s, Harry Hudson and Tom Smales, in action. Harry took 2nd place in the ‘A’, running a new PB of 4:10.5 sec, slashing 4.03 sec off his old best. Tom  took a 2nd place finish, in the ‘B’, he too ran a new PB of 4:27.1 sec, 4.54 sec off his old time.

Women’s Middle Distance

Jess Cappleman, took 5th place in the 800 metres ‘A’, running a new PB of 2:20.0 sec, 2.37 sec off her old best. Under 17 Emilia Russell, took 3rd place in the ‘B’, running a new PB of 2:24.6 sec, an improvement of 8.06 sec.

Men’s Distance

Gregan Clarkson, took 3rd place in the 5000 metres ‘A’, running his season’s best time of 16:13.2 sec. Alex Wilson, took 4th place in the ‘B’, covering the 12.5 laps, in a time of 17:36.1 sec. Gregan also ran, in the 3000 metres steeplechase, where he took a 3rd place finish in the ‘A’, running his season’s best time of 11:10.6 sec.

Women’s Distance

The women’s 3000 metres race, saw under17, Hermione Pickering, running the ‘A’, where she took 4th place, running the 7.5 laps, in a time of 11:30.7 sec. Senior road runner, Michelle Sutton ran the ‘B’. This was her first 3000 race, as well as her first outing on the track. She dug in, and competed well, taking 4th place, and establishing a PB of 12:46.0 sec.

Men’s Hurdles

Simon Downs, ran in the ‘A’ race, of the 110 metres hurdles, taking a 5th place finish, running a new PB of 20.6 sec, a 2.47 sec improvement. Simon also ran, in the 400 metres hurdles, taking 4th place in the ‘A’, posting a new PB of 63.6 sec, a 0.28 improvement. In the ‘B’ race, Gregan Clarkson, took 4th place, running his season’s best time of 92.0 sec.

Women’s Hurdles

Clare Blunt, was the winner of the 400 hurdles ‘A’ race, running her season’s best time, of 81.1 sec.

High Jump

Under17, Oliver Adnitt, took 6th place in the men’s high jump ‘A’, going clear at a height of 1.55 metres. In the ‘B’, Simon Downs took 3rd place, he also cleared a height of 1.55 metres.  In the women’s competition, Abbie Haigh, took 3rd place in the ‘A’, going clear at a height of 1.40 metres. Ellie Townsend, was the winner of the ‘B’, where she also went clear at 1.40 metres.

Pole Vault

Yorkshire champion, Clare Blunt, was the winner of the women’s, ‘A’, pole vault  going clear at a height of 3.30 metres. Simon Downs, took 4th place in the men’s ‘A’, with his clearance at 2.60 metres. 

Long Jump

Emily Dye, took 5th place in women’s ‘A’, putting in a leap of 4.92 metres. The women’s ‘B’ saw Abbie Haigh, also take a 5th place finish, with her season’s best jump of 4.03 metres. In the men’s competition, James Wardle took 4th place in the ‘A’, jumping a new PB of 5.97 metres, a 15cm improvement. Philip May, took 4th place, in the men’s ‘B’, he too jumped a new PB of 5.59 metres, a 44cm improvement.

Triple Jump

James Wardle and Philip May, were together again, in the triple jump, Where James took 2nd place in the ‘A’, with his jump of 12.14 metres. Philip was the winner of the ‘B’, jumping 11.73 metres. In the women’s event, Abbie Haigh, took 4th place in the ‘A’, with her season’s best jump of 9.91 metres. Rosie Shepherd, took 3rd place in the ‘B’, with her jump of 9.64 metres.

Shot Putt

In the men’s shot, Shaun Kerry, took 3rd place in the ‘A’, with his throw of 12.36 metres. In the ‘B’, John Twiddle took 2nd place, with his throw of 12.28 metres. Holly Adams, took 4th place, in the women’s ‘A’, establishing a PB with the 4 kg shot, of 10.45 metres. The ‘B’ saw Sarah Robinson take a 5th place finish, with her throw of 7.00 metres.

Discus Throw

Holly Adams, took 3rd place in the women’s discus ‘A’, with her throw of 33.97 metres. In the ‘B’, Jess Townsend’s throw of 29.83 metres, gave her a 2nd place finish. The men’s event, saw masters athlete John Twiddle, take 5th place in the ‘A’, with a throw of 32.37 metres. Shaun Kerry, took 2nd place in the ‘B’, where he established a PB of 30.31 metres, with the 2kg discus.

Hammer Throw

Shaun Kerry, was the winner of the men’s hammer ‘A’, with his throw of 53.40 metres. in the ‘B’, John Twiddle, took 2nd place, throwing his season’s best distance of 40.63 metres. The women’s ‘A’, saw former English Schools champion, Olivia Stevenson, take a 2nd place finish, with her season’s best throw, of 45.99 metres. Sarah Robinson, was the winner of the ‘B’, with her effort of 44.98 metres.

Javelin Throw

Simon Downs, took 2nd place, in the ‘A’, with his throw of 40.84 metres. Shaun Kerry, was the winner of the ‘B’, launching a throw of 35.65 metres. In the women’s event, Emilia Russell, took 4th place, in the ‘A’, establishing a PB of 28.85 metres. Sarah Robinson, was the 4th place finisher, in the ‘B’, with her throw of 17.48 metres.
