Northern Athletics Young Athletes Road Relays
‘Sport City’ Manchester – Sunday 15th September 2019
The 2019, young athlete’s road relays, were staged at Sport City, in Manchester, on Sunday the 15th of September. Kingston upon Hull AC, were represented at the event, by two teams, of female athletes, under15 girls, and under 17 women. More than 1200 athletes, from all parts of Northern England, were in competition, at the event.
Under 15 Girls – 3.4 kilometre Race
The Kingston team, were Georgina North, Jess Waugh, and Amy Rothery. All of whom were making, their debut appearances, at the road relays event. A total of 55 athletes, contested the first leg of the race, which was run over three, 3.4 kilometre legs. The County Schools 1500 metres champion, Georgina North, took the baton out on the first leg, where she ran the course, in a time of 14.14 sec, and handed over the baton, to Jess Waugh, with the team standing in 29th place. Jess, who was running in a field of 52 athletes, navigated the course, in a time of 14.42 sec, and handed over, in 27th place, to the County steeplechase champion Amy Rotherey, who was running in a in a field of 45 athletes. She completed the course, in a time of 16.06 sec, bringing the team home, in 32nd place, with a combined team time, of 45.02 sec.
Under 17 Women – 3.7 Kilometre Race
The under 17 women’s, was a more experienced team. The baton was taken out on the first leg, by Jodie Martin, the English Road Running Association’s, 5000 metres champion. Jodie ran the 3.7 kilometres course, in a time of 14.39 sec, and handed over the baton, to her training partner, Ella Shaw Hall. The County 800 metres finalist, navigated the 3.7 kilometres, in a time of 15.23 sec, and handed the baton over, with the team in 8th place. The final leg was covered by, Hermione Pickering, the 1500 metres, English schools cup finalist, who ran the final leg, in a time of 15.26.sec, crossing the finish line, in a time of 15.26 sec. A total of 80 athletes competed in the race.
