City of York AC Summer League

York University – Sunday 22nd September 2019

Twelve Kingston athletes, were in competition, at the final York Summer League meeting, of the 2019, track & field season. The meeting was staged, at City of York’s home track, at the York University campus.

Under 11’s

Keijimi Ashaolu, has made a good start, to his athletics career, notching up a number of good results, during this track & field season, where he has seen action, in the Humber League matches, and other open meetings. At this meeting, he was in competition, in both the 75 metres and 150 metres sprints, and the 600 metres race. He was the winner of race 1 in the 75 metres, running a time of 11.10 sec. He was also the winner of race 1, in the 150 metres, clocking a time of 21.72 sec. In the 600 metres race, he took a 6th place finish, with his run of 2:08.85 sec.  

Nicholas Rusling, the County Schools, 80 metres sprint champion, was in action, in his first 75 metres sprint race. He was the winner of race 2, running a time of 12.83 sec, establishing a PB, for the distance. He was in further action, in the long jump competition, where he took 5th place, leaping to a new PB of 3.26 metres, 6cm beyond his old mark.

The County Schools, high jump champion, Freddie Yeo, took 3rd place, in the long jump, putting in a leap of 3.52 metres. He also ran, in race 1 of the 150 metres sprints, where he took a 4th place finish, running a time of 24.27 sec.

Gilby Wright, made his Kingston debut, at this Aprils Open meeting. He has competed in the Humber league fixtures, and other open meetings. He was in action at York, in the 150 metre sprints, and long jump. He went in race 2, of the 150 sprints, where he ran a time of 26.99 sec. The long jump, saw him take 8th place, with his leap of 2.66 metres.

Clemmie Wright, like her brother, made her club debut, at this year’s Spring Open meeting. She has also competed, throughout the spring and summer, at open meetings, and Humber League matches. She was in action at York, in the 75 and 150 sprints, and long jump. Drawn in race 2, of the 75 metres, her debut appearance over the distance, she took a 5th place finish, and established a PB of 13.54 sec. She took another 5th place, in race 3 of the 150 metres, where she ran a time of 29.11 sec. There was a huge field of athletes, in the long jump event, where she took 18th place, with her jump of 2.48 metres.

Under 13’s

William Rusling, is in his second competitive year, with Kingston. 2019 has seen him, become a member of the junior team, competing in the UK Youth Development League fixtures, representing the team, in high jump, long jump and sprints. He is also, the County Schools long jump champion. At this meeting, he was in action in the 75 metres hurdles, long jump, and shot. He was the winner of the hurdles race, running a time of 16.11 sec. He made his debut appearance in the shot putt, taking 3rd place, and established a PB of 6.07 metres. In the long jump, he took 12th place, with his leap of 2.99 metres.

Matilda Wright, made her club debut, at this year’s spring open meeting. She too has competed with the junior team, covering the shot, javelin and hurdles. The York meeting, saw her take a 4th place finish, in the 70 metres hurdles race, clocking a time of 15.75 sec. She threw a new PB of 5.08 metres in the shot, an advance of 27cm, for a 5th place finish. In the javelin, her throw of 12.51 metres, gave her a 10th place finish. 

Under 15’s

Gabriel Li La-Vigars, is in his second competitive season, at Costello. He is the reigning County under 15 hammer champion, and he took the County silver medal, in the long jump. In the YDL League, he represented the junior team, in hammer, long jump, discus and javelin. At the York summer league, he was the winner of the long jump, with a leap of 4.92 metres. He took 4th place in the 100 metres sprints, clocking a time of 13.62 sec, and took a 3rd place finish, in the javelin with a throw of 35.75 metres.

Alex Chivers, is in his 6th year with Kingston. He has made significant strides forward, throughout 2019. He won three medals, at the County championships, javelin gold, shot silver and discus bronze. The County schools event, brought him another gold medal in the javelin and a bronze medal in the shot. He also competed in all of the junior team’s league matches. At York, he was in action in the javelin and shot events. he was the winner of the shot, with his throw of 10.45 metres, and he took 2nd place in the javelin, with a throw of 36.90 metres.

Under 17’s

Antony Mould, is in his fourth competitive season. He was a hammer finalist, at this year’s English Schools Championships, in Birmingham, and he was, the hammer silver medallist, at the Northern Championships, in Liverpool. At this year’s County Championships, he was the gold medallist, in the hammer, and the bronze medallist, in the discus. In the YDL league, he represented the youth team, in hammer, discus and shot. At York, he was in competition, in the hammer and shot. He was the winner of the hammer event, throwing a new PB of 44.62 metres, and advance of 4.34 metres. He was also the winner of the 6 kilo shot, throwing the heavier shot, for the first time, he established a PB of 9.34 metres

Under 20’s

Sarah Robinson, is in her first year, with Kingston. Crossing the river Humber, from Scunthorpe, to Costello, to train and compete, with the club. She is an experienced hammer thrower, who is the reigning, County under 20, hammer champion. She also competed, in the hammer finals, at Manchester’s Northern championships, and the English Schools track & field championships, at the Alexander stadium in Birmingham. Sarah also represented the youth team, in the UK YDL, as well as, the senior team, in the Northern track & field league. She was in action at York, in the hammer and shot competitions. She was the winner of the hammer, throwing a new PB of 46.63 metres, and took a 3rd place finish, in the shot, with her throw of 7.44 metres.

This year, Becky Chivers, has suffered a much curtailed, and frustrating time, where she has been beset by injuries. She struggled on, and took the javelin silver medal, at the County schools championships, but had to miss out, on all of the major championship meetings. At the tail end of the season, she got back to something near her best. This City of York meeting, marked the end, of the 2019 track & field season, and Becky put in her best performance of the year, taking 2nd place in the javelin event, throwing a new PB of 34.21 metres, an advance of 2.04 metres.
