The Junior Academy is tailored for young athletes aged 8 to 14. We currently have a waiting list for places in our junior athletics groups so a place would not be immediate. If you would like to join the waitlist, please complete this form and someone from the registration team will be in contact soon regarding the wait times. Note: Children need to be at least 8 years old to join our junior academy, due to insurance requirements.
As part of our club policy and our insurance arrangements with England Athletics, all new athletes are entitled to a maximum of three trial sessions before they are required to become full members. This ensures that all participants are properly covered under our club’s insurance and that we can continue to provide a safe and structured training environment. Training Schedule
The Academy meets on Monday and Thursday evenings for structured, pre-planned sessions. Although some sessions may be physically or technically challenging, we ensure that athletes only participate in activities appropriate to their age, strength, speed, agility, and skill level.
Our Training Groups
We organise our Junior Academy into 3 groups to cater to different ages and skill levels:
Group 1: Fundamentals (ages 8-11)
- Monday and Thursday 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
- Designed for our youngest athletes, starting from 8 years old. The focus is mastering the basics of running, jumping, and throwing.
Group 2: Development (Multi events) (ages 11-14)
- Monday 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
- Focused on athletes ready to engage in a wider variety of disciplines. This group emphasises honing skills in running, jumping, and throwing.
Group 3: Development (Sprints & long distance) (ages 11-14)
- Thursday 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
- This group is split into 2 disciplices - sprinting and longer distances.
Opportunities for Competition
We actively encourage Junior Academy members to participate in school events and competitions on the athletics club circuit to represent our club. Our coaching team regularly shares updates about upcoming events, providing athletes with opportunities to gain valuable competitive experience and further their development.
