Commitment to Safeguarding and Ethical Practices

Athletics is one of the most accessible and inclusive sports in the UK, and we are committed to ensuring that all children and young people who participate in our club are provided with a fun, safe, and supportive environment. Safeguarding is our number one priority, and it is the responsibility of everyone involved in the club to contribute to this mission.

We expect all members, coaches, volunteers, and parents to:

  • Respect the rights, dignity, and worth of every individual within the club
  • Uphold a moral and legal duty of care towards children and vulnerable adults, ensuring their wellbeing is safeguarded and protecting them from any form of abuse or poor practice
  • Condemn the use of recreational and performance-enhancing drugs, and stand against doping practices

It is everyone’s responsibility to report any concerns regarding poor behavior, safeguarding issues, or unethical practices. Concerns should be reported to a member of the Welfare Team, who will handle the matter sensitively in accordance with the club’s Safeguarding Procedures and Grievance & Disciplinary Procedures.

When You Join Our Club

Upon completing your membership form, you will be asked to confirm your agreement to the following:

  • Adherence to the Club’s Rules: to abide by the club's rules, code of conduct, and social media policy.
  • Responsibility for Young Athletes: to ensure that any young athletes under your care also adhere to the club’s rules during activities, competitions, and on social media.
  • Anti-Doping Agreement: to comply with the UKA Anti-Doping Rules.

If you participate in competitions, you must also agree to the England Athletics Codes of Conduct. If you're unsure whether you have accepted the EA Codes of Conduct, please log in to your My Athletics Portal and check through the menu in the top right corner.

We are dedicated to fostering a culture of respect, integrity, and safety for all.

If you have any concerns about the welfare of athletes, please contact one of our welfare officers, their names, photos, and contact details are displayed in the clubhouse. Our welfare officers have all undertaken safeguarding training through England Athletics.
